The new release carries forward Adobe’s vision to empower creators of every level with Firefly as their creative co-pilot, bringing their visions to life at the speed of imagination.
Adobe launches Generative Recolor, the first integration of Adobe Firefly into Adobe Illustrator
Leveraging Firefly, Adobe’s family of generative AI templates, to automate and iterate previously tedious, manual processes, the Generative Recolor beta magically transforms color into vector graphics like never before.
Previously, brands created color variations manually every time they developed a new packaging, rethinking logo color options before a rebrand or redesigned their websites. Now, with the assistance provided by Firefly, designers will be able to drastically speed up time-consuming color processes, freeing up their time for more creative and less boring activities.
Adobe has pioneered numerous AI innovations for more than a decade, introducing hundreds of smart features from Adobe Sensei to Creative Cloud, Document Cloud, and Experience Cloud. Firefly, launched in March, initially focused on generation of images and text effects. Firefly became one of the most successful beta launches in Adobe’s history, with Photoshop users creating over 150 million images in just three weeks using the new Firefly-powered Generative Fill feature.
Adobe Firefly in Illustrator to power work with speed
Firefly’s seamless integration into Illustrator reflects Adobe’s corporate initiative to empower every creative workflow with additional speed, accuracy and power. Firefly is the most differentiated AI service on the market today, designed to generate commercially secure, professional-quality content and to be incorporated directly into creators’ workflows.
Adobe plans to allow companies to train Firefly in a way customized with its own brand assets and generate content in the brand’s unique branding style and language using APIs to increase automation. Companies also have the opportunity to obtain an intellectual property allowance from Adobe for content generated by certain Firefly-based workflows, allowing them to distribute it securely within their organization.

Debuting today, Generative Recolor enhances Illustrator with the generative magic of AI. The new feature is designed to capture the essence of a vision – “noon in the desert” or “midnight in the jungle” – and then translate it into custom themes to recolor vector graphics. Based on simple text instructions, this pioneering technology automatically applies colors to complex vector graphics, saving time by eliminating the need for the artist to manually edit each individual object.
Generative Recolor greatly simplifies the creative process and is ideal for everything from brand identity to advertising and marketing graphics, digital drawings and illustrations or inspiration and mood boarding. Designers can test product packaging designs that span multiple color options, display ads in different seasonal or holiday variations, and produce illustrations in countless color combinations.
