Ineos Grenadier, ecco il 4×4 che vuole sostituire il Defender thumbnail

Ineos Grenadier 4×4 who wants to replace the Defender

With the retirement of the legendary Defender, a void was left in the hearts of many fans of the 4 × 4 world. But someone saw a great opportunity in this exit from the market, namely that of creating a replacement for it. Thus was born the Inéos Grenadier a new 4 × 4 off-road vehicle that shouldn’t make you regret the progenitor of this market segment.

Ineos Granadier presents itself with a new and exclusive frame made by Gestamp. It has permanent all-wheel drive, a mechanical center differential and an electronically lockable front and rear.

The suspension made by Carraro has a rigid front and rear axle, good news for anyone looking to tweak the height, and even so, the Ineos promises a comfortable and “hard and pure” Grenadier at the same time.

The engines are of origin BMW, and it is the only thing borrowed, but the good news is that the power supply between petrol and diesel can be chosen and always without giving up the 6 cylinders in line. The petrol engine puts 285 hp and 450 Nm of torque on the road, while the diesel delivers 250 hp and 550 Nm. They can be combined with a ZF 8-speed automatic gearbox, while there is no manual gearbox

Ineos Grenadier, the 4 × 4 with a perhaps a little too familiar design

It does not escape at first glance, how the Inéos Grenadier is very (too?) Similar to the Defender. Land Rover has also noticed that it has sued Ineos, but despite everything, the car company of the multibillionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe has won the case. Its shapes are certainly reminiscent of Solihull’s British SUV, but there are also entirely new design details.

The nose is sharper, the rear is still squared but with more modern round LED headlights, which are the same as in the front. Perhaps the most striking similarity between the two 4 × 4 rsmainly concerns the C-pillar with the protruding wheel arches.

The wheels will be 17 or 18 inches, made of steel or light alloy, and can be ordered with Bridgestone All-Terrain tires or BF Goodrich All-Terrain T / A KO2 tires.

The Ineos Grenadier measures 4.97 meters in length, with a spare wheel, 1.97 wide and 2.03 high. The brand guarantees for its 4 × 4 a towing capacity of 3,500 kilos.

Top 4 × 4 details

There are several elements that show the attention to detail that went into the design of the Granadier. For example, the double front and rear hooks for harnesses or the metal protections on the underbody. It cannot be overlooked the snorkel or the side slats doors with grooves to facilitate the attachment of hooks or aftermarket accessories.

With the removal of the gear lever the rest of the interior of the 4 × 4 Ineos Grenadier is new, designed to be solid, practical and easy to use. The instrumentation is only in the central tunnel, so as not to obstruct the driver’s view.

The central tunnel includes the gear lever, the gearbox lever, the manual handbrake, the cup holders and the rotary controller for the center display. The large black buttons encased in a molded metal console are designed to be operated with gloves, to be resistant to water and dirt and to easily find what you need.

The trunk opens into two doors, a narrow left with a ladder and the right with the spare wheel. This will make things easier, for example, when parking. The trunk floor is flat and has eyelets and a hard plastic cover.

Reservations open in October although there is no official price yet. According to some sources, the cost should be around 50 thousand euros as a basis. Production will start at the end of the year and the first deliveries are expected in July 2022.
