The saga of Kingdom Hearts has just celebrated its twentieth anniversary, and for many it is a very important date, especially for all those who have grown up together with Sora, Goofy, Donald and companions. From the first chapter of the franchise a lot of water has passed under the bridge, and next April 4th we could have an insight into what will come: a story with a still uncertain future.
Kingdom Hearts celebrates its 20th anniversary
Today the Kingdom Hearts series is among the most loved videogame sagas of all time, as evidenced by the recent achievement of 35 million copies sold, which acts as the backbone of a passionate community that over the years has not failed to enthusiastically welcome every chapter of this interesting and bizarre franchise.
Precisely for this reason, thanks to its international success, Square Enix has announced an event set for April 4 to celebrate the twentieth anniversary of the work of Nomura. During the event, therefore, we will have to expect news, both videogame and of another nature. It’s hard to predict what’s going to happen right now, but it’s likely we’ll be given an idea of what the future of the series will be.
KINGDOM HEARTS HD 2.8 FINAL CHAPTER PROLOGUE
Having said that, there are some clues that let you vaguely glimpse where Square Enix is going to end up in this round; of the clues that are closely linked with the secret ending of Kingdom Hearts 3. The event will in fact be held a Shibuya Hikarie, a palace in Shibuya, which is the place where Sora wakes up in the closing of the events of the last game.
Whether it’s a small teaser about the next big Kingdom Hearts game? Knowing the minds behind the project, this possibility is absolutely not to be excluded in the most absolute way.
Phase 2 of the franchise
With the end of Kingdom Hearts 3, Nomura and companions have heralded the end of the main saga of the series and the beginning of the so-called phase two, which began with Melody of Memory. That a new triple A chapter of the franchise is in development is not a secret: Nomura has already confirmed it in a recent interview, even if it is not clear what the script will be this time.
As you well know if you have played even just a handful of titles in the saga, the fragmentary nature of the story is one of its founding characteristics, for better or for worse, and in fact in Melody of Memory we learn about the Realm of Unrealitywhere the events of the next great Kingdom Hearts game are likely to take place.
So the twentieth anniversary of Kingdom Hearts could give us some more information about this narrative development, which according to what we have seen so far should see Sora e Rikku grappling with a new adventure in the megalopolis of Quadratum. To find out, however, we will have to wait a few more days.
