It was the 1963 when the French writer Pierre Boulle published a novel destined for great success, which told of the battle for control of the Earth between humans and a race of intelligent apes. Five years later that novel arrived at the cinema, with a Hollywood production, an even greater success and with the same title: Planet of the Apes directed by Franklin J. Schaffner. The iconic film produced numerous sequels in the 1970s and then, at the turn of the millennium, a Tim Burton adaptation.
Again a long break, this time lasting ten years, and here the original idea of the Planet of the Apes returns to the cinema, and this time in a decidedly more appropriate way: Rupert Wyatt directs a film that is intended as a reboot-prequel of the series as known up to that point: it’s called Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and the success is such that with the two sequels that have arrived so far, Apes Revolution – Planet of the Apes in 2014 and The War – Planet of the Apes in 2017both directed by Matt Reeves, this reboot series grosses more than $1.8 billion worldwide and overall it gets excellent feedback from critics too.
