Lightyear arrives on Disney +: from August 3 the animated feature film on the origins of Buzz Lightyear will be available in streaming
After being released in Italian cinemas on July 15, Lightyear – The true story of Buzz also arrives in streaming on Disney +. From 3 August the film will be available on the digital platform, subject to possession of a valid subscription of course. A great opportunity to review and / or retrieve the feature film that provides a background to one of the most beloved characters of the Toy Story saga.
Lightyear – The true story of Buzz: the plot of the film
The film tells the story of the space ranger Buzz Lightyear, character who inspired the famous toy that becomes Andy’s playmate in Toy Story. Buzz is grappling with one of his intergalactic missions, which however fails this time and must find a way to save himself and all his people, who have remained isolated on an unknown planet.
During his adventure, Buzz will make the acquaintance of an unlikely group of allies and will collide with his nemesis: the terrible Zurg. The film finally completes Buzz’s story, illustrating Andy’s favorite film of 1995, which is the one that tells the story of the space ranger.
A half-won bet
It was certainly not easy to go and tell the story of one of the most beloved and iconic characters in the Pixar universe, but Lightyear does full justice to the beloved Buzz. The film garnered globally positive reviews, reaching a 75% positive reviews on the Rotten Tomatoes portal. A very positive result, which, however, was not confirmed by that of the box office.
The film in fact marked the worst debut of a film in the Star Wars saga and the third worst collection of the history of Pixar after Arlo and Onward’s Journey – Beyond Magic. However, it is likely that the summer and the covid have played an important role in this regard, limiting the turnout to the cinema. The streaming release is therefore the great opportunity to recover the public and to turn the Lightyear bet into a full victory rather than a partial result.
