Elon Musk leaves the role of CEO of Twitter as promised a few months ago, but the new one CEO Linda Yaccarino seems aligned with the owner of the social network – at least since political point of view. NBC Universal executive Yaccarino has worked for the Trump administration and has expressed several views in line with Musk. But among some past statements and judging by who he follows on social media, it seems that he is not a “copy” of the current CEO at all.
Linda Yaccarino, the Twitter CEO Trump had named
After revealing yesterday in a tweet having found his successor, Musk has confirmed that he will step aside for the new CEO Linda Yaccarino. A seasoned television executive who will be leaving NBCUniversal for the new challenge, Yaccarino has been working in the advertising sector for some time. And according to several analysts, Twitter must quickly recover the advertisers lost with the innovations introduced by Elon Musk.
Yaccarino, however, seems in line with the rightward political shift Musk has been pursuing on Twitter. Indeed, the Trump administration had appointed her to the role in the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness and Nutrition dal 2018 al 2020. And her political stance also seems to emerge from his Twitter followers.
Most of Yaccarino’s followers are known: from Simone Biles a Miley Cyrus. He also follows many accounts related to Dogecoin and other cryptocurrencies. But as many on Twitter have noted, so have many right-wing accounts. By Republican governors Ron DeSantis, Rand Paul and Tim Scott, up to the former foreign minister Mike Pompeo and to Musk’s podcaster and friend Joe Rogan.
Also, it follows Libs of TikTokan anti-LGBTQ+ account, follower of Q-Anon and other conspiracies Jack Posbiec and several other accounts by extreme right. As does Musk too. Although unlike the owner, he has expressed opinions in support of the use of vaccines and anti-COVID measures. So it’s not an exact copy of Musk. But not even a revolution: the “political” line of the app will probably remain the same. Though we’ll stay and see.
