After various rumors, the remake of the cult game originally created by Grasshopper Manufacture of Court51 was confirmed today by Yoshimi Yasuda, the executive producer of the original game. The development team includes Yasuda himself, as producer, and a team made up of people who worked on the original title and new people from Dragami Games.
In a new message shared online today, Yoshimi Yasuda recounted how the remake of Lollipop Chainsaw was born and why. Since the original it is not playable on current consoles, the original development staff she didn’t want to leave him in limbo and therefore has purchased the IP from Kadokawa Games to develop a remake. Yasuda said:
We, the original development staff of Lollipop Chainsaw, consider the game to be very valuable to us and didn’t want to leave it in limbo, where the players who wanted to play it couldn’t. For this we bought the intellectual property of Lollipop Chainsaw from Kadokawa Games and decided to develop a remake. We have already contacted Warner Bros. for development and are supported by them in this endeavor.
While being true to the original, the Lollipop Chainsaw remake will feature some different elements. Among these we find the soundtrack which, as revealed, will contain just some of the 16 licensed songs of the original. The graphics will also change, becoming more realistic.
We would like to tell fans of the original game that even though the original staff are working on the remake, there will be elements that are different from the original. For example, in the original game the soundtrack contained 16 licensed songs, but sadly it is difficult for us to implement them all this time. As a result, apart from a few licensed songs, the soundtrack will consist of new music. Also, as we have access to higher spec consoles, we will take a more realistic approach to graphics this time around.
