macOS Monterey introdurrà una "modalità ad alte prestazioni" per i Mac? thumbnail

macOS Monterey could introduce a high performance mode

The latest beta version of macOS Monterey Apple includes references to a “High Power Mode”, a kind of high performance mode. This mode should theoretically boost performance when a MacBook isn’t connected to a power adapter.

macOS Monterey, is Apple testing a high-performance feature for Macs?

In early 2020, code discovered in a beta build of macOS Catalina suggested Apple was working on a new operating mode focused on performance for MacBook hardware. The code strings attached to the so-called “Pro mode” users warned: “Apps may run faster, but battery life may decrease and fan noise may increase.”

Apple subsequently never released a macOS version with this “Pro Mode” or anything comparable to a performance option. But the code discovered in a beta of macOS Monterey released today revives the hope that that feature could be rolled out in the near future.

The power saving mode will also come

As discovered by 9to5Mac, the code of the latest version of macOS includes the mention of a so-called “High Power Mode”. Nothing is known about the feature aside from its name, although Apple’s name would suggest it would act in direct contrast to the upcoming power-saving mode.

Available for the first time on Macs, the energy saving mode in macOS Monterey takes cues from the iOS feature and increases battery efficiency by making system changes such as dimming the screen and lowering the processor clock speed. The feature is designed for when the Mac is running on battery power, although it can also be activated when connected to power.

Although not confirmed, the “High Performance Mode” may provide a more performing experience at the expense of battery life. Enabling the option could, for example, maintain the maximum processing capacity of the processor.

It is unclear whether Apple intends to release “High Power Mode”, although the company may choose to unveil the feature alongside macOS Monterey. Apple’s latest operating system is expected to debut alongside the new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros expected this fall.
