It arrived thanks to Wanted Cinema in cinemas on March 28 the French drama starring Ella Rumpf Margherita's theorem. The film written and directed by Anna Novion was presented at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival, nominated for two César Awards in 2024, as well as the award for Best Female Revelation in the Leading Role.
The French director Anna Novion returns to directing, after some years of absence, with a film starring the brilliant mathematics student Margherita, only woman on the course, about to finish his thesis. While Margherita demonstrates her theory in front of a packed classroom, a colleague notices a flaw in the theorem presented. A small, but fatal, mistake undermines years of work and causes the young woman's certainties and self-esteem to collapse, calling into question Margherita's desire to establish herself as a mathematician. Margherita's personal crisis is the turning point that reconnects to real and social life which until then he had neglected to give priority to his studies. She thus discovers that her mathematical mind can make her earn a lot of money with a game, mah-jong, which soon becomes her daily challenge to her fate.

Margherita's theorem is a coming-of-age story set in the fascinating world of mathematics, a context that has always been strongly masculine. The incisive figures of the mother (Clotilde Courau) and her exuberant dancer friend (Conia Bonny) contribute to giving the film a strong feminine connotation.
