Mario Kart 8 Deluxe: track and track guide (part 2, Flower Trophy)

Our Mario Kart 8 Deluxe track and track guide continues with the Fiore Trophy: the difficulty curve is starting to be felt!

And here we are again for ours guide at all piste and to all traced from Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. This time it’s up to Flower Trophy, for four different races of intermediate difficulty. And qualitatively speaking, we have a flower as fragrant as the one for your sweetheart’s birthday. So expect the iconic Mario Circuit on its strip of Möbius, the ups and downs of the Toad Riviera, the haunted tunnels of the Tremarella Citadel and the breathtaking atmosphere of the Shy Type Waterfalls. Furthermore, as you saw in the last episode, we will dedicate a layout analysis and a micro-review to each circuit in a few, very few words. If you are ready… start the engines, let’s get started!

Mario circuit

We talked about this setting already in the ninth installment of the previous guide, and it shouldn’t be surprising if this is one of the most emblematic tracks and tracks of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. The Mario circuit it maintains a more moderate challenge rate, but at the same time it also guarantees a constant speed for the whole circuit… or almost. We are not at the level of Silence since F-Zero X, but we come dangerously close!

  • Layout: In case you are not familiar with Möbius strips, take a rubber band and close it in the center to form an eight. The concept is the same. In other words, therefore, it is the track that contorts, while the players will only have to concentrate on the curves. Before the finish, there is a ramp with which to start a glide. Goombas scattered around the track will be your only real problem. Only if you’re not careful, of course.
  • Assessment: Compared to the previous chapters of the series, this Mario Circuit (in the Flower Trophy as it always happens, with the exception of Mario Kart DS) accompanies Goomba and Peach’s Castle with a level design that is anything but anonymous. The result is always and only lots and lots of fun. 8.5 / 10.

Toad Riviera – Mario Kart 8 Deluxe track and track guide

The second of the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Flower Trophy tracks does not exaggerate the imagination like other tracks, but it can be quite intricate. San Francisco is the main inspiration behind the Toad Rivierapreceding Mario Kart Tour and the real-world locations it contains by a few years.

  • Layout: The main theme behind the scenario are the secondary roads, and already after the first bend you can choose whether to proceed on the boats to the left (ending on the canopies) or between the market stalls on the right. Continuing, you will have a second fork in front of you: the road to the right will lead you straight to a shortcut, while going left will lead you to the regular climb. At the top, you’ll have to avoid the various trams, and the left wall houses a less crowded alternative route (an anti-gravity section). The descent that follows will lead you to the finish, but not before a last curve after a last less crowded alternative alley.
  • Assessment: Another great showcase of the most ambitious level design showcased by the development team. 8/10.

Cittadella Tremarella – Mario Kart 8 Deluxe track and track guide

Bewitched settings, for the mustache, always represent curved balls directed at the player and the Tremarella Citadel it is not exempt from this rule. The only haunted track (at the writing of this article; we’ll see if the August datamine is reliable about adding another from Super Circuit) of the game offers quite a few pitfalls. It will be up to you to deal with them as it suits you!

  • Layout: After a first shaky straight, the first corner already offers a shortcut. If you have mushrooms with you, you can cut it up. Continuing, the underwater section offers some Fish Bones and an anti-gravity bifurcation similar to the initial one. Whichever route you take, a ramp will take you into the air on the main path. Depending on your momentum, you may land as high as you are low. The second option is the least advisable for the time it takes, though. The last curve on the right can be cut with another mushroom.
  • Assessment: A track that often happens to revisit, and (we would add) for a good reason. Cittadella Tremarella is an excellent compromise between the visual impact of an aesthetic faithful to the haunted settings of the series and a level design that lends itself well to competitions between friends. 8.5 / 10.

Shy Guy Falls

Majestic to see and walk through, the Shy Guy Falls they offer everything you could want from the conclusion of the Flower Trophy. And even more, if you allow.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe: track and track guide (part 2, Flower Trophy)

  • Layout: The Shy Guys mine is home to the finish line, but after a couple of dangerous curves over the cliffs you’ll soon find yourself in an anti-gravity section. The fastest part of the circuit is this: a vertical climb on the surface of the water on the first waterfall, followed by a painful descent on the second. At the end, a glide will lead you to the rest of the mountain path, unless you manage to land on the cave above (with which to cut a few seconds from your time). Attention: before the last bend, you will find a ramp on the right. If you have mushrooms with you, you can save more time!
  • Assessment: A truly explosive ending to a better Flower Trophy than many other predecessors. This track needs to be dominated much more than the Twomp Ruins, but maybe that’s what makes it so satisfying. 9/10.
