Get ready because Mario Strikers is about to return! Super Mario’s acclaimed spin-off series focusing on soccer or rather the insane soccer version of Mario’s world is coming to Nintendo Switch soon with Mario Strikers: Battle League Football. The new title will be available in martyr from 10 June but thanks to Nintendo we were able to get our hands on the full game in advance for a couple of matches. Our preview of Mario Strikers: Battle League Football
For those unfamiliar with the Mario Strikers series, we are faced with soccer video games in which the characters of the world of Super Mario compete in a limited field, ball in the center and crazy rhythm. In Mario Strikers: Battle League Football, two teams of five players compete on the pitch, forgetting the classic rules of football. Shoves, kicks and slides are in fact the order of the day and the only goal is to score more goals from the opposing team before the end of time. To do this, in addition to the orb blows mentioned above, players will have different power-ups and skills specific to each character.
In total, we will have 10 playable characters: Mario, Luigi, Bowser, Peach, Yoshi, Toad, Wario, Waluigi, Rosalina and Donkey Kong. Each of them has specific characteristics such as speed, power, accuracy and so on. Super Mario is a balanced character and capable of performing most of the actions, Toad, given his size, is very agile and quick while Bowser, needless to say, is ideal for hitting everything, enemies, balloons, other enemies.
Character characteristics can also be amplified by certain equipment and armor. The equipment can be selected for each character and is designed to increase certain characteristics, at the expense of others, or to balance the weaknesses. These are interesting mechanics typical of role-playing games that make team management more complex and interesting.
An injection of adrenaline
In Mario Strikers Battle League Football, matches are characterized by a fast pace and fast duration. In fact, each match has only one time whose duration depends on the settings we choose. During a classic match the teams will try to score as many goals as possible within the predefined time with the help of the renowned Power-Ups typical of the Super Mario series. In fact, we find turtle shells to throw at enemies, BoB-ombs, banana peels and so on. The functions are almost the same as in other Super Mario titles.
An interesting novelty is the Super Shot, a crazy skill unique to each character. To use it you will need to acquire energy and throw a loaded shot in the middle of the field into the enemy goal. From here will start a timed cursor to lock in certain areas to get a powerful and accurate shot. But beware, even a Super Shot can be parried if not perfectly loaded. Each super shot guarantees two points to the team that scores, thus being able to overturn the fate of a match in an instant.
Obviously we will have to beware of enemy players who will not stand still and watch. Enemy punches, slides and power-ups can all be used against you, the match is still on!
