From year to year it was possible to observe how the IP-based games of the vast super-heroic universes found more and more a favored place within the gaming industry. We have been able to witness an exponential growth of everything related to Marvel and the DC Universe, starting from the classic titles on Spiderman and Batman, to get to the nice stylized spin-offs in the form of Lego, without neglecting also the numerous crossovers that often do drive fans crazy. It also appears that more than one new Marvel AAA game will soon join the list. but exploring other videogame genres, among which the MMORPG category stands out.
Marvel’s new AAA MMORPG game
After the latest Marvel product recently released, Guardians of the Galaxy, for next year other arrivals are already scheduled, like Spiderman 2, a Wolverine title, and also a new game from former Naughty Dog creative director Amy Henning. So, Marvel blockbusters have been seen and will be seen for a while, but so far most of the games released have often focused mainly on the singleplayer aspect, and it is rare to find projects that exploit only the multiplayer components.
At the end of September, XboxEra podcaster Nick Baker had spread a rumor regarding Sony and a probable collaboration with the studio Imsoniac Games. In this rumor it was supposed the development of a PS5 exclusive of what would be an online game based on the Marvel universe. And now, according to the report released by EnaD Global 7, this Swedish company is also planning to create a new MMORPG and AAA game of a Marvel IP. It will be developed by Dimensional Ink Studios, already coming from previous experiences regarding the world of superheroes with DC Universe Online.
No further details have been provided regarding the project in question, other than that Jack Emmet, the creative leader of City of Heroes, will be the one who will lead the development. Probably being still in the early stages, its release date appears in any case rather far, but during the presentation of EG7 the CEO Ji Ham nevertheless expressed his enthusiasm for this new work, arguing how it will be one of the largest projects in the entire portfolio of the company.
