Maserati Multi70 and the team of John Soldini they triumphed at RORC Transatlantic Rope, setting a new record time. The Italian team beat Snowflake e Team Zulu.
Maserati Multi70 and Giovanni Soldini win the RORC Transatlantic Race
Even two tons of water on board were not enough to stop the breathtaking race of the Maserati Multi70. The vessel crossed the Atlantic at an average of over 22 knots, with peaks of 37. It arrived at 19.45 on Friday 13 January, crossing the finish line of the RORC Transatlantic Race with a time of 5 days, 5 hours, 46 minutes and 26 seconds.
The Italian team won the “Line Honor Multihull” and also set a new speed record in the prestigious offshore race, beating Snowflake and Team Zoulou. He knew break the previous record by a margin of nearly 17 hoursset by Lloyd Thornburg’s MOD70 Phaedo3 in 2015 in 5 days, 22 hours, 46 minutes and 03 seconds.
The success of the Italian trimaran from brilliant tactics, aimed at always keeping the wind in your favour. On board Maserati Multi70 with John Soldini there were the six sailors and companions: Guido Broggi (ITA), Oliver Herrera Perez (ESP), Francesco Malingri (ITA), Francesco Pedol (ITA), Matteo Soldini (ITA) and Lucas Valenza-Troubat ( FRA).
“It was exciting, a fantastic course in the trade winds for a regatta that we are always all happy to participate in, because there is no other regatta in the world that brings together boats so similar and with such a high level of professionals who do ocean racing. Winning is therefore above all an honor“, he claims John Soldini.
Nothing stops the champions
An accident occurred about halfway through the journey: the drift slipped from its seat and broke through the hull, causing the trimaran to take on two tons of water in the watertight compartment. A quantity of water equal to one third of its weight. The crew made makeshift repairs, managing to triumph.
For Giovanni Soldini and the entire Maserati Multi70 team, the transoceanic regatta marks the beginning of a new season of major sporting events around the world.
