Mitsubishi Colt: a Frenchwoman in Japanese guise

Although the lines “betray” the derivation from the Renault Clio, the new Mitsubishi Colt brings with it very different equipment and full-hybrid engines

The Mitsubishi Colt shares some characteristics with the Renault Clio with slight changes to the front fruit of the collaboration between the Japanese car manufacturer and the French group.

Rather than develop a small car from scratch, Mitsubishi opted to adopt the Clio platform for its Colt, reducing development costs otherwise unsustainable. The same strategy was applied to the ASX compact crossover, based on the Renault Captur, with minimal aesthetic changes.

The choice of the front

In December 2023, Mitsubishi introduced the Colt and the ASX in Italy, followed in 2024 by the Outlander SUV, with the addition of a model completely electric in 2025.

The models mentioned stand out aesthetically from their Renault origins through details such as the different maskthe Mitsubishi writing on the tailgate and the logo replicated both outside and inside, the Space Star and the Eclipse Cross, of Mitsubishi origin, complete the range.

An alternative future

The Colt, now in its seventh generation, offers several engine options, including the 1.0 petrol engine three-cylinder (67 HP or with 91 HP turbo) and the full hybrid version with a 1.6 petrol engine, delivering a total of 143 HP.

The hybrid drivetrain is composed of 3 engines: a 94 HP 1.6, an electric (the more powerful of the two) 49 HP, and a second 20 HP electric motor used as starter motor and power generator.

A diesel version is not planned (unlike the Clio), while the Gpl varianta 101 HP 1.0 three-cylinder turbo, will be available in the coming months.

Higher prices, but more complete equipment

The base model of the Colt has a starting price of 17.900 euro to get to the full-hybrid with a price list of 29,500 euros, prices slightly higher than the Clio, but with richer standard equipment.

Accessories like the Bose audio systemheating of the front seats and steering wheel, and parking assistance are standard in the Instyle trim level for the hybrid version.

A refined and friendly environment

Inside, the Colt offers a cabin with comfortable seats and refined finishes. The infotainment system is managed by a 9.3″ vertical display, while the digital dashboard is 10″. The standard equipment includes the navigator, the wireless charging plate of the smartphone and Android Auto/Apple CarPlay connectivity.

Comfort is one of the Colt’s strong points, with well-tuned suspension, a quiet cabin and a good road holding.

Mitsubishi offers a warranty of five years or 100,000 km and five years of roadside assistance.
