The new Tiguan is ready to conquer the European market with its launch. Volkswagen has completely revisited the third generation of this best-seller, which has already sold over 7.6 million units since 2007, improving it on all fronts. We tried the new one Volkswagen Tiguan 2024 on the roads of Provence: how did the test drive e how much does it cost the new generation?
The liveability between exteriors and interiors
The Tiguanwith its typical appearance Volkswagen, appears renewed and imposing, thanks to a higher front part which gives it a distinctive character. Its advanced aerodynamics, highlighted by a Cd coefficient of 0.28, are evident not only in the appearance of the front end, but also in the improvements made to the front bonnet, which is now more prominent and merges with more fluid shapes in the fenders.
Innovative is the introduction of the new HD Matrix IQ.LIGHT1 headlights, with 38,400 multipixel LEDs, which provide high-resolution street and surrounding lighting. These headlights, with specific modules for high beam, HD Matrix and directional headlights, offer a superior level of comfort and safety.
The interiors of Tiguan 2024 they boast superior quality, with first choice materials and an essential and ergonomic design for the dashboard, door trim and seats. The fourth generation MIB4 modular infotainment system introduces new controls and displays, with notable refinement in the digital cockpit area, which includes the infotainment system and climate controls grouped into a single component positioned higher up in the vehicle. The visual layout is further improved with screens positioned on the same visual axis.
Furthermore, the spaces offer considerable comfort, also thanks to the optimized dimensions compared to the previous generation: there is an increase of 30 mm in length (reaching 4,539 mm) and a slight increase of 4 mm in height (without roof rails ) compared to the previous model (1,639 mm). The width (1,842 mm) and wheelbase (2,680 mm) remain constant.
The DCC Pro in the 2024 Tiguan
The Volkswagen Tiguan also features a new generation adaptive chassis called DCC, which in Tiguan 2024 becomes DCC Pro. Its operation is very simple: the 2-valve shock absorbers, in contrast to the traditional DCC, are equipped with a revised adjustment algorithm that allows separate control of the rebound and compression phases. This technology, previously limited to higher vehicle classes, is now integrated into the MacPherson strut suspension, bringing significant improvements in terms of dynamics and comfort.
Both versions of DCC, both the previous one and the new one, operate with active suspension regulation that adapts in real time to road conditions, considering parameters such as steering, braking and acceleration. The driver has the flexibility to customize the DCC setting from soft to sporty.
Volkswagen Tiguan: infotainment, IDA e ChatGPT
The Volkswagen Tiguan features the new standard infotainment display, available in 12.9-inch or 15-inch sizes, with intuitive graphics and an IDA voice assistant option for simplified setup. The Digital Cockpit, with a diagonal of 10.25 inches, offers an anti-reflective and anti-glare coating for clear vision. A new element is the driving experience rotor, which acts as a multifunction control, allowing you to adjust driving profiles, traction modes, audio volume and pre-configured cabin atmosphere.
The system also offers advanced functions, such as adjusting the atmosphere through the Lounge, Energetic, Joy, Minimal and Me modes. The IDA voice assistant allows you to control many functions of the vehicle and the infotainment system with natural voice commands, including the interaction with ChatGPT1, an artificial intelligence available as an update. There Tiguan 2024which we tried in test driveoffers an advanced driving experience, combining technology and comfort in an innovative way.
How is the new 2024 Tiguan on the road? The test drive
The new generation of Volkswagen Tiguan It features eight different engines and amazes with its road holding. On the roads of Provence, in France, we tested the 2.0 TDI version, turbo diesel, and the new plug-in hybrid.
The Volkswagen Tiguan it will be offered with two efficient TSI turbo petrol engines (not available in Italy) and two TDI turbo diesel engines. The TDI versions generate an output of 110 kW with 150 hp and 142 kW with 200 hp with 4MOTION all-wheel drive as standard.
The road setup is especially surprising when cornering once the car is set to sport mode, which takes on the characteristics of a sedan despite the fact that it is the SUV range of Volkswagen. The sportiness, thanks also to the suspension set-up, allows you to tackle even city streets complete with jolts, potholes and bumps without having to return to comfort mode. A remarkable driving experience with which you can’t find many faults.
The other engines
Volkswagen then carried out a complete review of the two plug-in hybrid propulsion solutions of the Tiguan 2024, giving them a system output of 150 kW with 204 HP) and 200 kW with 272 HP respectively. Thanks to the new 19.7 kWh battery, the Tiguan eHybrid boasts an increased all-electric range of around 100 km, compared to the previous 60 km. Charging can take place at the home AC wallbox with a maximum power of 11 kW and while traveling at DC fast charging stations with a maximum power of 50 kW.
All this positions the Tiguan eHybrid as an ideal electric car for everyday use, with an electric range of around 100 km, and at the same time offering a total range of over 800 km for longer journeys. In both cases these are theoretical values.
In addition to hybrid solutions, the Volkswagen Tiguan the third generation also offers two new 48 V eTSI mild hybrid drive options, with power outputs of 96 kW and 130 HP, and 110 kW and 150 HP respectively. The 130 HP version is already used in the basic version with a 7-speed DSG gearbox, using the recovered electric energy to optimize fuel consumption.
How much does the new Volkswagen Tiguan cost?
The range of Volkswagen Tiguan 2024 includes three trim levels – Life, Elegance and R-Line – with a prezzo departure of 39.700 euro for the version equipped with the 130 HP 1.5 mild hybrid engine and front-wheel drive, the only configuration available for units with light electrification. The TDI engine, however, starts from 43.350 euro in the Life setup.
During 2024, further engine options will be introduced, including the new plug-in powertrain with a declared range in all-electric mode of 100 km starting from 49.850 euro.
