Two episodes of Obi-Wan Kenobi have been released, the new Disney + series, shows us the events that follow The Revenge of the Sith and that anticipate those of A New Hope, which is what we have in seeing a new Disney series on the Star universe Wars
That Disney is still trying to be forgiven for the controversial success of the third Star Wars trilogy? Likely. However, this is not going well in the Mickey Mouse house.
Let’s make a small recap to clarify our ideas.
Currently the Star Wars saga (and the love-hate of the most avid fans for it) seems to be doing more ups and downs than roller coasters of Disneyland itself.
First the third trilogy released during the purchase of Lucas Film by Disney. She had started off pretty wella second episode a bit subdued, to then fall into the abyss and arouse the fatal wrath of fans with the release of episode 9 which completely disintegrated what was being built between 7 and 8.
Also there was the cancellation of A Star Wars Story spin-offs. A shame. Rogue One had been liked by many, while Solo, though useless, was at least pleasant.
However, a recovery seems to have been seen with the arrival of The Mandalorian on the then newborn Disney + platform. Let the series be the right direction to take to give a breath of fresh air to the franchise?
Not entirely. In fact, after two splendid seasons of The Mandalorian (the third is expected for the first months of 2023), we have The Book Of Boba Fett. Six episodes of total confusionwhich seem almost a bridge for the next season of the Mandalorian, but which completely lose interest in the events of the character who gives the title to the series.
And now it has arrived on the Obi-Wan Kenobi platform, the series that tells us about the homonymous character and the events that happen between episode 3 and episode 4.
Obi-Wan Kenobi, what we have seen so far
For the moment, the first two episodes are available on the platform, which see him returning in the role of the Jedi master Ewan McGregorwho had already lent his face to this character in prequel trilogy.
Even if the interpreter is the same, the character is very different from the one seen in the first three episodes of the franchise. In fact, the current Obi-wan is a man who has lost everything, who has been betrayed by his pupil and who has been living in hiding for ten years, haunted by his mistakes and nightmares.
The intent of the series seems to be to show us that before the events of A New Hope, the master Kenobi did not stand still on Tatooine to watch over little Luke, to hide from the inquisitors of the Empire and to count the grains of sand.
In these two episodes, in fact, he is called to actively participate in a mission to bring home little Leia who has been kidnapped by the aforementioned inquisitors.
However, the storyline of Leia’s kidnapping ends at the end of the second episode. So what will the series tell us in the next 4?
Obi-Wan Kenobi, the future of the series
Surely we have identified the villain of the series, so we can already assume that it will be a one-to-one confrontation between Obi-Wan and her. We are speaking clearly of the Third Sister.
In these two episodes we are shown quite clearly, how the inquisitor has an obsession with our protagonist and how her wanting to capture it (and take credit for it) is almost consuming her.
Almost certainly already from the next episode there will be a big twist that will connect to the Rebels series (series that Disney has in any case included in the canon and therefore must be taken into account).
And it is also conceivable that we will review old acquaintances and that we will deepen how Obi-wan knows them and the type of relationship he has with them.
Obviously the more human and emotional side of the character cannot be excluded which was already staged in the first two episodes, and which actually made the episodes lose a bit of bite.
Or maybe it’s just getting used to something more charged like The Mandalorian.
We will see in the next few episodes how his whole affair will be handled. And if we should expect a second season.
