Oppo MariSilicon X: the chip dedicated to photographic processing

Oppo throws himself into the world of chips. Or rather, of the NPUs, i.e. the Neural Processing Units. Thus was born MariSilicon X, a new component that will take care of image processing. Built with a 6 nanometer production process, MariSilicon X makes RAW image processing possible in real time and allows you to capture video in 4K AI Night Video mode with live preview.
Its debut is expected in the first quarter of 2022, with the new models of the Find X series.

Oppo MariSilicon X: what is it for?

Capable of performing 18 trillion operations per second (TOPS) and designed to ensure maximum energy efficiency, Oppo MariSilicon X offers top-level performance without putting the battery in crisis. The innovative dedicated tera-bps memory system, on the other hand, allows the new NPU to significantly reduce the time required to copy data between memory and processing units.

MariSilicon X also has a dedicated DDR with an extra bandwidth of up to 8.5 GB / s, and when the AI noise reduction algorithm is running, MariSilicon X can achieve performance up to 20x faster than Oppo Find X3 Pro.

But, in practice, what will it allow us to do? First of all of capture 4K night video by applying complex enhancements to each frame in real time. Secondly it will allow you to shoot images with a dynamic range of 20bit 120db, which is 4 times higher than that of Find X3 Pro, and with a contrast ratio of 1,000,000: 1. Let’s not forget the improved HDR management at 20bit in RAW and the ability to achieve a signal-to-noise ratio of 8dB for images.

MariSilicon X, thanks to Dual Image Pipeline design and double raw super sampling, should unlock the full potential of Oppo’s RGBW sensor. As? Supporting RGB and White signal separation and blending to provide 8.6dB improvement in signal-to-noise ratio and 1.7x improvement in texture quality, making images more expressive in both photos and videos.

To see the actual results of the new processor, however, we just have to wait for the release of the next Find X.
