OPPO talks about the refurbished smartphone market

Chinese smartphone maker OPPO topped shipments list in China with 38.13 million units delivered in the first half of 2018, according to an industry survey released on Tuesday (31 July 2018). OPPO’s domestic rival Vivo ranked No.2 with 35.51 million units, Sino Market Research said. Apple Inc came third with 32.11 million units delivered. Chinese telecommunication giant Huawei ranked fourth with 30.57 million units, trailed by its Honor sub-brand with 28.39 million units. In terms of sales volume, Apple topped the list with 172.7 billion yuan ($25.27 billion), dwarfing the 76.1 billion yuan sales by OPPO, which ranked second.

On the occasion of the World Environment Day of 5 June, OPPOa leading company in the smart device sector, takes stock of its approach in favor of sustainability and on an initiative such as that linked to refurbished devices. The trend to buy refurbished devices, OPPO points out, is constantly growing. The refurbished smartphone market, in particular, will reach 10% of the total smartphone market by 2027.

OPPO’s initiatives in favor of the environment: increase battery life and support the sale of refurbished devices

To support the environment and adopt a more sustainable approach, OPPO has implemented a series of initiatives. Among these is the introduction of Battery Heatlh Engine, a proprietary solution that aims to increase battery life. Then there are initiatives related to the recycling and reuse of used smartphones. In Italy, in particular, OPPO has set up a sales service of refurbished devices through its proprietary e-commerce.

Who buys refurbished smartphones

According to data provided by OPPO, to buy refurbished products are mainly men (71%) and aged between 25 and 34 years. It should also be noted that in 2021 the regions that presented the highest number of users (between 20 and 69 years old) for orders for refurbished smartphones were Lazio, Liguria and Lombardy.
