Our review of the Razer BlackShark V2 Pro headset for PS5

Designed in collaboration with the best players in the world, this multi-award-winning wireless headphone offers the complete package: crystal-clear audio, advanced noise isolation and comfort for even the longest gaming sessions. Strengthened by the experience accumulated over the years and by the external help of pro players, Razer has further refined the performance of the BlackShark V2 Pro improving the limitations of the previous version, making them fully compatible with consoles and focusing where few headphones focus: on the microphone.

But let's start in order.

Il design of the Razer BlackShark V2 Pro on console remains almost unchanged compared to the previous model. As anticipated, for this review we took a look at the version White Edition but there is also a total black one. The style maintains Razer's high standards now legendary and fits perfectly with the design of the PlayStation 5 for which the headphones are designed.

The headphones mount solid plastic pavilionswith the Razer logo in black which dispenses with RGB lights. The only LED present is the one that indicates the activity status of the headphones. Here we also find the headphone power button, microphone activation and deactivation and the Type C input for charging. In the outermost part of the left pavilion we also find a knob volume adjustment. In the right pavilion we find a single one with multiple functions. We can in fact switch from Bluetooth to Wi-Fi connectivity with Razer HyperSpeed technology with a double click or change the calibration between different preset modes such as Game, Movie, Musica… by holding down this button, we will also be able to go to the profiles of the most famous esports video games such as Apex Legends, Call of Duty, CS:GO, Fortnite e Valorant. Obviously each preset is customizable to better suit your playing style.

Inside the package, in addition to the headphones and the Type-C dongle, we find the removable Super Wideband microphone with pop filter included and which we will talk about in the next section dedicated to…

The BlackShark V2 Pro 2023 headphones integrate i driver Razer TriForce da 50 mm in titanio, offer a frequency response of 12 to 28,000 Hz and support THX spatial audio. The result is a truly engaging acoustic experience: the sound is clear, the volume is powerful and the bass, if you choose the right equalization profile, makes itself heard. A superior audio experience, rich in detail and customizable.

Without a doubt the main upgrade concerned the microphone, usually a sore point of most headphones. The BlackShark V2 Pro shows off instead a Super Wideband microphone with an fsampling frequency of 32 kHzto offer a Really rich and natural voice quality. Being a microphone a 9.9mm capacitorhas a wider and more sensitive frequency response than dynamic microphones, allowing for a Overall superior recording quality. Condenser microphones are often used in recording studios for singing and recording instruments, precisely to capture more nuances.

The microphone is also equipped with a double anti-pop protectionone external and one integrated, which eliminates the annoying peaks of plosive sounds such as “p” or “b” for flawless communication, essential for competitive titles.

Razer Audio App support

Being designed for consoles, this version of the Razer BlackShark V2 Pro is free from the dependency of the Razer Synapse software (on PC) to complement the Razer Audio application, available for Android and iOS. Connect the headphones to the app, we will be able to customize settings, profiles, keep an eye on the battery and much more. Adjustments are then saved directly to the headset, eliminating the need for additional software. This means you can take your BlackShark V2 Pro to a LAN party or local tournament and find your personalized sound just like at home.

This is a notable breakthrough that truly makes this Razer BlackShark V2 Pro perfect for PS5 or Xbox. Obviously, despite this, the headphones are also compatible on PC or mobile.

Our test of the Razer BlackShark V2 Pro White Edition

For this review, we tested the Razer BlackShark V2 Pro for about two weeks, during which we used them EVERYTHING, on PS5, Xbox, PC and mobile. On no platform have the headphones ever given us any problems and they have given us truly exceptional audio quality.

Although the model does not differ particularly from last year's, these Razer BlackShark V2 Pro have been excellently refined to work best on consoles. Without the support of computer software, BlackSharks now rely on the mobile application, which is simpler and more intuitive but no less detailed. From here we were able to customize our audio experience and keep tabs on it battery that maintains the very high standard of 70 hours of use. Since we started the review, precisely about 14 days ago, we never had to recharge them.

The battery life is only matched by the truly excellent audio quality thanks to Razer TriForce and truly exceptional sound cancellation also aided by the extremely comfortable memory foam earcups. In this regard, we must praise the weight of the headphones which, despite being wireless headphones, a feature that usually increases the grams, maintain a truly remarkable lightness (320g). This is also thanks to the ingenious move of replacing the arches that connect the pavilions to the main bearing that rests on the head, with two simple but resistant plastic strings that lighten everything.

Big step forward also regarding the microphone, also designed to replace a possible fixed microphone given its “console” nature. The recording quality is truly excellent and truly “plug and play”, to get the most out of it without fiddling too much.

The Razer BlackShark V2 Pro PS5 review in brief

The Razer BlackShark V2 Pro is an excellent choice for competitive gamers and anyone looking for a premium audio experience. They offer clear, powerful and customizable sound, as well as a high-quality microphone and comfortable design perfectly suited to console gameplay.

The price remains at €219, more than adequate for the professional level performance it offers. Finally we have a worthy pair of headphones with the power of the PlayStation 5 and other consoles that certainly deserve no less attention than the PC when it comes to eSports.
