The applications of artificial intelligence (AI) in the most varied contexts are numerous and increasingly disparate. The AI will thus accompany visitors on their visit, interacting with them and providing information on the Colosseum, its history, its monuments and also its activities (such as opening and closing times).

The project was conceived and promoted by the Archaeological Park itself, under the care and management of Federica Rinaldi e Astrid D’Eredita. Nerone is also the fruit of an international collaboration, as both have worked on it Machineria srl – an Italian company active in the production of content and automation for cultural institutions – which Ask Monaa leading French company in the creation of conversation tools, artificial intelligence and data analysis.

How Nero will work, the AI of the Colosseum Archaeological Park

The chatbot will be able to simulate realistic conversations. This means that users will actually have the impression of conversing with another human being, except that their interlocutor will be a digitized version of Nero, depicted in a toga and with a radiated crown, as represented in some monetary issues of the years of his principality. In this way, the users who turn to it will be able to obtain information and notions in an intuitive, rapid and timely manner.

Nerone will be usable from any device (computer, smartphone and tablet). The clear and intuitive interface looks like a conversation window similar to a messaging app in which the interlocutor provides useful information and doesn’t spare a few shrewd jokes about its history and times.

“The Colosseum Archaeological Park is a living and constantly evolving institution. Our goal is to facilitate and improve the user’s visit experience, adapting to new codes and languages to get in touch with a vast audience and in particular with the new generations.
