Talk about live service, and Sony’s blue horns appear: six “game as a service” experiences have been postponed to PS5
We don’t do it on purpose, but there are days when multiple news stories have a common theme and the world of live service is still talked about PS5: not only does WB Games intend to push this business model more, but Sony has postponed half of its games that are part of it. We talk, as often happens in this period, about the results emerging from quarterly discussions with shareholders. And for the fiscal year ending in March 2026, the cobalt titan intends to place on the market no less than twelve games belonging to the discussed category. Counting on Bungie’s support for the development of the titles has proven to be a winning strategy, although some experiences have been scaled back.
Sony has confirmed it’s delayed half of its 12 live service games planned for release in the coming years.

Live service for Sony too, on PS5 between joys and sorrows
In the conversation with investors, Hiroki Totoki Sony confirmed the postponement. “We’re working on it,” Totoki begins, “to ensure long-term game-player interaction. Among the twelve games, six will arrive in fiscal year 2025 – that’s the current plan. For the remaining six, we are still working on it.” Not surprisingly, just recently the stand-alone multiplayer experience in the world of The Last of Us it was resurrected with a completely unrelated tweet, almost as evidence of a long gestation. Hermen Hulst Sony previously called Bungie’s feedback essential to “best understand what makes a live service successful.” And as hard as it is to admit it, it’s a lucrative industry.
