It seems that Qualcomm could launch the new chip Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 earlier than expected. In fact, the new rumors suggest that the device could arrive as early as October, instead of mid-November as happened with the predecessor.
Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, the chip will arrive sooner than expected
The Chinese headboard Digital Chat Station posted a faster-than-expected Qualcomm timeline on Weibo. Indeed, although the second generation of Snapdragon chips made their debut in mid-November last year, the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip it could arrive as early as October.
In this way, the chip will be able to arrive on the top of the range of the last three months of 2023 also in Europe and the USA. By contrast, the first products with the second generation – Galaxy S23 e OnePlus 11for example – they only arrived at the beginning of this year.
The new Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 supports innovations such as the 200MP sensor which debuted on the Galaxy S23 Ultra, for example. This is in addition to better performance and battery life.
According to what emerges from the first information, the third generation should bring several innovations compared to the second. Among all, the +25% CPU performance to be able to handle more powerful applications. But also a better performance in terms of energy efficiency – we are talking about a +20% according to initial information.
Considering that the second generation improves +35% CPU performance and +40% efficiency, as well as +25% GPU power for graphics performance, we are talking about much more power than smartphones from just a couple of years ago.
Extra power that maybe we will be able to see in one smartphone already by 2023. Although in recent years we have seen how making chips is complicated in this historical moment: these seem to be Qualcomm’s intentions, but we do not know if the company will be able to keep up with the expected pace.
