Rainbow Six Extraction: what to know before starting to play

Waiting for its release in January, let’s find out together, in this article, what to know before starting to play Rainbow Six Extraction, the new chapter of the Ubisoft series

While the success and installed base of Rainbow Six Siege continues to remain stable over time, the release date of Extraction, formerly the Quarantine, is inexorably approaching. Next January 20 we will be able to put our hand on the new chapter of the Ubisoft series, after numerous postponements and changes of direction undertaken not only as regards the name. Over the last decade, the Rainbow Six franchise has been mutating following what users demanded, sensationally managing to turn the tide of a chapter, Siege, which hadn’t started very well. With the arrival of Extraction, Ubisoft wants to try to change the cards a bit, renewing some aspects of the series without upsetting its foundations.

Initial premises

In this article specifically we want to go and analyze with you what to know before starting to play Rainbow Six Extraction. A title that will, in its premises, join the competitive multiplayer PvP of Rainbow Six Siege and that will lead you to live the traumatic experience of having to fight against alien parasites, the Archaeans, who have invaded the planet and are spreading to wildfire. Each game, or raid, as it is called in Extraction, will see a group of three players (although you can always play the game in single player) sent to different locations to gather intelligence, complete objectives, or destroy Archaean nests.

Operators | Rainbow Six Extraction: what to know before starting to play

Although the two titles will obviously have fundamental differences, some aspects of Siege will return in Extraction, such as, for example, some of the playable Operators in the first. In the new chapter of the franchise will be 18 the impersonable Operators at launch, some of which will be familiar to vintage gamers. Obviously they will be reworked and rearranged in the PvE perspective of the title, which will obviously be different from Siege’s markedly PvP one.

Not all 18 launch operators were obviously unveiled at the time of writing this article, but some faces are already in the public domain. Among these we find Gridlock, trap specialist, Finka, useful for resurrecting fallen allies. We also find Smoke which, in honor of its name, uses smoke grenades that also do damage to enemies, Hibana, able to remotely use explosive adhesive charges, e Lion, which can detect all moving enemies in a certain range. Other Operators already revealed are Nomad, Ela, Sledge, Alibi, Vigil, Pulse and Doc.

Maps, maps and more maps! | Rainbow Six Extraction: what to know before starting to play

The “maps” issue is obviously one of the crucial aspects for a title like Rainbow Six Extraction and like any good multiplayer title. At launch, the co-op shooter will provide gamers with four different zones, each characterized by three “subzones”, for a total (initial) of 12 different maps. In the map of New York Cityfor example, we will find an overdeveloped residential sector called Monolith Gardens, the Archaean-infested Police Station and Liberty Island. Instead, in Alaska, you can explore a haunted farm known as Nome, Eurydice Valley and the Orpheus Research Center.

A San Francisco you can explore the Enterprise Space Foundation, located in the headquarters of a successful company that has been supplanted by aliens, or the Apollo Resort (a name is guaranteed) and Tenderloin. Finally, the remaining three maps are Downtown, the Sierra County Hospital and the Dam, all three vivid of Aliens and practically razed to the ground by the invasion.

Weapons and Objectives | Rainbow Six Extraction: what to know before starting to play

Plausibly, you will need weapons rather than frying pans to fight against hordes and hordes of invading and possessed Aliens. And Rainbow Six Extraction will provide you with a large number of guns of various sizes. At launch, 69 different and unique weapons will be available, divided into different categories, including Assault Rifles, Machine Guns, Shotguns and much more. They will also be 25 unique gadgets available, between special grenades, field barriers for defense and beams of light to detect enemies.

Furthermore, considering its nature, it is almost obvious that Rainbow Six Extraction will have a repetitive nature in itself. How to avoid boredom? Simple, by inserting in the various maps of the randomized targets for each raid. Specifically, there will be three Goals that will be randomly chosen from a pool of 13 total.

Archaeans and difficulty level | Rainbow Six Extraction: what to know before starting to play

We’ve mentioned them very often, but what do we need to know about the Archaeans that will come in droves against us in Rainbow Six Extraction? At launch, 13 different types will be available, from cui i Grunt, which have sharp blades for hands, or the Announcer, which can fire projectiles that pierce armor. We find the Smasher, the game’s tanks, and Lurker, which can make other aliens invisible, and finally i Breacher, which are equipped with explosive bags placed on their backs. And that’s just the beginning.

The approach Ubisoft used in Rainbow Six Extraction in terms of difficulty is quite peculiar. For each part of the Incursion that will be completed, the game will let you choose whether to continue the game with what you have achieved up to that point, or to risk and go towards more difficult objectives and fight more insidious monsters, with the promise of better rewards. Some sort of well-implemented risk / benefit mechanic could be really interesting to explore. But what is the concept of “risk” in Extraction?

MIA and Endgame Operators | Rainbow Six Extraction: what to know before starting to play

The failure of one of the Operators on your team to perform a draw will have tangible consequences within the game. To make it simple, to get the missing Operators back to the team, you will have to return to the areas already explored and help them get out. These missions are called MIA (Missing in Action) and will take you to face herds of endless enemies while you try to rescue that specific operator. If you fail to retrieve them, they will not be available again for future missions.

Considering that Rainbow Six Extraction is a “live game”, it goes without saying that it will need a lot of content in addition to what will be available at launch. One of the focal points of the Endgame conceived by Ubisoft is the protocollo Maelstrom, described for now as an “endgame challenge mode” for players who have already upgraded their favorite Operators to the max. This mode will propose timed objectives, unique challenges, special cosmetic rewards, and more.

Technical skills | Rainbow Six Extraction: what to know before starting to play

In addition to the Endgame, Ubisoft obviously has plans for the post-launch content of Rainbow Six Extraction, Among these we can expect, for example, new Operators, weapons, gadgets, cosmetics, maps and modes. In the near future, however, Ubisoft’s priority will certainly be events, with limited-time ones (called Crisis Events) or weekly ones, and much more. Ubisoft has also already confirmed that the title will support cross-play, cross-save and cross-progression across all platforms.

Furthermore, if you buy the game, Ubisoft will allow you to use two Buddy Passes, which will allow you to invite two friendly players to play the title for free. Unlike similar initiatives, as was the case with It Takes Two, for example, the Rainbow Six Extraction Buddy Pass will last “only” 14 days. In short, a long period of testing. Finally, Ubisoft has decided to tempt users even with the budget price of Extraction, which it will be available at launch for “only” 40 €.
