Renault unveils the Kangoo Van E-TECH Electric and raises the bar for small EV vans

Renault is a pioneer of electric cars in Europe, especially in electric vans, and by 2022 it will bring the new Kangoo Van E-TECH Electric. The latter will be officially unveiled at the Solutrans Motor Show in Lyon on November 16th where you can see all the Renault know-how accumulated in the production of electric cars over the last 10 years, which is the basis of this EV van.

The van so loved by European professionals (according to the company, more than one in five electric vans moving in Europe is the Renault Kangoo) it is powered by a completely new lithium-ion battery with an energy capacity of 45 kWh. The distance it can travel, according to the WLTP standard, is 300 kilometers, which gives the user the peace of mind of being able to use it for the whole working day without having to recharge it. This powerful battery is positioned under the vehicle so as not to reduce the passenger compartment or cargo space at all.

Renault Kangoo Van E-TECH Electric, to each his own driving mode

The electric motor of the brand new Kangoo Van E-TECH Electric develops 90 kilowatts and 245 Nm of torque. Like electric cars, maximum torque is available as soon as you set off, so driving is flexible and comfortable in all situations.

The alternative to the “normal” driving mode is the Eco mode, in which the maximum power and speed are limited. It is at its best with light loads and allows you to reach the estimated distance with a hassle-free charge.

The driver can choose between three intensities of regenerative braking. The modality Sailing is indicated on the display by the indicator B1, in which case the braking is very limited. Its use is more suitable for highways and in general for high-speed roads. The modality Drive (B2) it is versatile for all types of driving and is the closest to the feeling of driving a car with a combustion engine when you take your foot off the accelerator pedal. Finally the modality Brake (B3) it uses regenerative braking a lot, which is why it gives its best when driving on steep downhill roads and in traffic jams. In this mode, the driver can almost always drive with only one pedal.

Conventional hydraulic brakes are combined with an adaptive regenerative braking system so that braking energy can be best recovered, regardless of the mode selected. The advantage of combined brakes is also that those that act on the wheels of the car wear out much less than normal.

Three different chargers

Kangoo Van E-TECH Electric is available with three different chargers to choose according to your needs. An 11 kW three-phase current charger is supplied as standard, suitable for all types of homes. The battery can be charged from 15% to 100% in 3 hours and 50 minutes with an 11 kW Wallbox and in six hours with a 7.4 kW Wallbox.

A 22 kW charger is available for an additional fee, which is a joy for those using public chargers. The most efficient option is an 80 kW fast charger, which supplies to the battery enough power for 170 kilometers in half an hour. With the two most powerful chargers available as an option, the traction battery is liquid-cooled.

Renault wanted to ensure that the operating distance remains as constant as possible under all conditions. That is why the Kangoo Van E-TECH Electric air conditioner is equipped with a heat pump. It works best when the outdoor temperature ranges from -15 ° C to + 15 ° C. And for all professionals who wash in cold areas of Europe, Renault for the new electric Kangoo offers (as an option) heated windscreen, front seats and steering wheel.

All the features of the new Kangoo Van

With the exception of the power supply, the Kangoo Van E-TECH Electric has the same advantages as the new Kangoo Vans with combustion engine. These include “Open Sesame by Renault”, an option to open a 1.45 meter wide side opening for loading and unloading on the side of the car. The new Easy Inside Rack for long items is also available in a fully electric version.

A multimedia system is available in the cabin Renault EASY LINK con display touch screen da 8 pollici or 10-inch as an option. Optional or standard driver assistance systems in the new Kangoo include e.g. digital rearview mirror, advanced emergency brake assist, adaptive cruise control, trailer stability control and electric parking brake.

With the Renault or EASY LINK application, many functions of the Kangoo Van E-TECH Electric can be programmed or used remotely. These include charging times, checking the charge status of the traction battery, cooling or heating the passenger compartment, searching for charging points to your destination or displaying the distance on the map based on the remaining battery capacity . Do not forget the Keyless Entry key.

Versatility is guaranteed a three-seater cabin with folding backrest in front of the center seat, which allow it to be transformed into a real “mobile office”. There are also numerous storage compartments in the cabin, which can hold a total of almost 60 liters of goods.

As with the petrol engine model, the cargo space is 3.3-3.9 cubic meters in the standard length version, depending on the configuration, and almost one cubic meter larger in the Maxi model, which will be sold in following. Depending on the length of the body, the load capacity is 600 or 800 kg and the trailer weight of 1,500 kg.
