Design and packaging | Panasonic SC-HTB600 review

The design of the enclosure with attached subwoofer does not differ at all from the Panasonic world and above all from the SC-HTB series.

We find, plastic materials of good workmanship, even if at least for the subwoofer we would have liked the wood, and the classic fabric covering that collects a lot of dust.

Unfortunately this is a rather common problem for any instrument that has electronics and consequently develops electrostatic energy.

In the upper part of the case we find the classic buttons to manage the volume, turn it on and off and to switch from one audio source to another. Attention, however, the first start-up must be carried out with the remote control.

Inside the package, in addition to the case and the sub, we obviously find the remote controller and two hooks for fixing to the wall.

Unfortunately, there is no extension cable for controlling the TV remote control like the one found in other models of the series. Consequently the choice falls on the obligation to hang the soundbar or leave it on the side of the TV receiver. Penalty the remote control (TV) otherwise it won’t work.

The possibility of using the TV remote controller to manage the speaker is also excellent.

How does this soundbar sound? | Panasonic SC-HTB600 review

Obviously we have tried the speaker in all its functions and we can say that on a general level we are in front of a device that offers a lot of satisfactions but with some small flaw that does not make it excel, but we go step by step.

The great breadth of frequencies allows us to fully enjoy each TV series but also to listen to music without ever getting tired of appreciating the general quality.

The small imperfections that do not make it excel reside in the deepest audiophile soul.

A striking example is the Virtual Dolby Atmos. This diffusion system, even if of excellent quality, cannot claim to be a “pure” Dolby Atmos.

The stratagem developed by Panasonic is to extend the speakers upwards so that the end user has the sensation that the sound comes from above but to one eye, indeed to a careful ear the difference will be known.

To give an example, may the audio purists forgive me, we could compare a 5.1 system to a pair of headphones with a real or virtual system. The sound diffusion will be better than a 2.0 system (with the same quality) but will still be less effective.

Removed the flaws as a purist, we are still in front of a soundbar capable of giving great satisfaction.

The bass well emphasizes the explosions or typical sounds of the TV series used to emphasize the highlights.

Who should buy this soundbar?

In conclusion we can say that we are in front of an excellent soundbar with multiple facets.

The audio management system combined with the many possibilities makes it an excellent companion for cinema and music evenings.

Some minor shortcomings like a real Dolby Atmos system or the lack of an additional reception system for the remote control it does not allow him to excel but overall we are faced with excellent quality general.

Another flaw probably lies in the price, in fact the cost is really too similar to the superior model. Looking at the offers and without being in too much of a hurry you could take home the SC-HTB700 at an even more advantageous price.

Points in favor

  • Lots of possibilities
  • A good general audio sector
  • A sober but elegant design

Points against

  • Some lack of too much
  • A little excessive price
