During first half of 2023 is expected start of production of Samsung’s third generation 4nm chips. This is an important appointment for the Korean company which aims to significantly increase the performance and efficiency of the chips made in its foundries. Here are the first details:
Samsung ready to make third-generation 4nm chips
To report the news is Business Korea, a source always very well informed about the activities of Samsung Electronics. According to preliminary information, the new generation of 4nm chips of the Korean house will go into production over the next few weeks.
Samsung would catch up an efficiency of about 60% for its manufacturing process (lower than TSMC’s 70-80%) and aims to continue to refine its activities. The new 4nm chips will be even more efficient and capable of better performance than previous chips.
We remember that Samsung has already started the 3nm process but its main chips are still made at 4nm, due to the higher efficiency. Furthermore, during 2024, the 4 nm process will be used to make chips in a new plant in the USA, in Texas, which will play a leading role for the future of the Korean group’s Samsung Foundry division.
