What makes Iizuka’s statements interesting are the apparent attentions towards the lore of the series, of which we did not suspect in the slightest. “The classic series began with Sonic 1 in 1991, and Sonic Adventure marked the transition to the modern series in 1998. So, in terms of timeline, Superstars is after Mania and before Adventure. When we develop a new game, we always make sure that the story fits well with the lore.” In recent months, SEGA’s job offer for a “lore expert” intent on monitoring what happens during the games caused a sensation.
