“I am my deejay, inside those grooves there is the soul”, they sang di Subsonic in a beautiful declaration of love towards a certain type of music and physical format, which now exists less and less. Despite that Spotify today launched a new feature powered by artificial intelligence (AI)introducing us to a virtual DJ that takes listening customization to the next level.
More and more web giants are using AI to offer advanced features for users. A feature that fits perfectly with Spotify, whose algorithm is always able to suggest music and podcasts based on the tastes of individual listeners.

In an announcement today, the company explains that its new feature “knows you and your musical tastes so well that it can choose what to play for you.” That way it sounds creepy, but it is precisely for similar features that Spotify is today one of the most popular audio streaming platforms in the world.
How Spotify’s DJ AI will work
The new feature is currently in beta testing, which means it could be arriving soon for all users. Spotify promises that DJ AI, in addition to choosing songs, will propose comments and information about songs and artists using “realistic voice”.
The personal DJ will constantly keep track of our actions, including the songs we have skipped, replayed, saved and shared. In doing so he will be able to refine the perception of our taste more and more, providing us with an always updated lineup of songs to listen to. This will be constantly changing since the AI will continue to slavishly analyze our listening habits.
Of course, if the DJ offers us a song we don’t like, we can remove it. These actions will also be taken into account by the AI. The functionality therefore will need a few hours of use before it is able to get to know us and our tastes. The more time we spend on Spotify, the more AI will refine its personalized offerings.
The DJ function is already available for some mobile users, both iOS and Android. Make sure you have the Spotify app updated to the latest version, and if you’re lucky, you’ll find the DJ tab visible on the app’s Home.
