The annual conference for SXSW in Austin, Texas, highlighted major breakthroughs in technology, film, culture and music. This year at SXSW, which takes place March 8-16, there will be a packed lineup of film and TV, including Star Trek: Discovery. A Q&A roundtable is planned, but Paramount+ has not yet confirmed details on who will attend. The specific date for the world premiere of fifth season of Discovery at SXSW has not yet been set. However, Paramount has already revealed a synopsis for the season centered on the USS Discovery “which will uncover a mystery, taking the crew on an epic adventure across the galaxy to find an ancient power whose very existence has been deliberately hidden for centuries.”

The season will see the Captain Burnham and the crew “hunt” for this mystery, facing competition from “dangerous enemies desperate to claim it for themselves.” There are more details for the premiere on the SXSW site, revealing specifically what the show will feature USS Discovery. Captain Burnham and the USS Discovery are sent to recover a mysterious 800-year-old Romulan ship, until the artifact hidden inside is stolen, resulting in an epic chase. Meanwhile, Saru is offered the location of her life, and Tilly’s efforts to help her drag her into a tangled web of secrecy.
During San Diego Comic-Con 2023, the Paramount posted a 5 minute clip. The clip shows the opening moments of the season premiere, where Captain Burnham faces off against season five villains. Since Start Trek: Discovery the series is set in 32nd centuryit means that the Romulan ship is from the 24th century, probably from the era of Star Trek: The Next Generation.
