Thanks to The Force Enginea graphics engine created by a group of fans, is now playable Star Wars: Dark Forces, the classic shooter released in 1995 also in 4K. It is the first shooter set in the Star Wars universe.
The Force Engine manages to decrypt and reconstruct the Jedi Engine by Lucas Arts for modern systems, overhauling games that used that proprietary graphics engine. A few days ago, on December 19th, The Force Engine came out in version 1.0 with full Dark Forces support (available at this link). Currently the group that created it is working to bring the graphics engine up as well Outlawsanother Lucas Arts shooter released in 1997.

An official blog post from the group that worked on The Force Engine reads: “The Force supports all of the many user mods developed for the original game and introduces high-resolution rendering while preserving the original 320×200 quality.”
A new save system has also been added, which will allow players to manually save anywhere in the game. Currently the graphics engine is only available on Windows PCsbut the developers have promised that it will arrive soon for Mac and Linux as well.
Finally it is important to specify that to use the graphics engine you need to own an original copy of the game.
