It seems that after 118 days of strike in Hollywood an agreement has been reached, albeit provisionalamong the actors’ union SAG-AFTRA and the alliance of Studios (AMPTP). This new contract could have Hollywood back up and running within a few weeks.

The strike can finally be said to be over, at least for the moment. So now more than seven months of labor unrest in Hollywood has come to an end. It’s been more than 60 years since the Writers Guild and SAG-AFTRA united in a joint strike. The 17 members of the actors union’s bargaining committee voted unanimously to recommend an agreement, even if only tentatively, to the SAG-AFTRA board.

Stop the Hollywood strike: the terms of the agreement

This agreement comes just under a month after Writers Guild ratified its agreement with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers. During the negotiations, in order to show the goodwill and seriousness of this new deal, Ted Sarandos of Netflix, Bob Iger of Disney, Donna Langley of NBCUniversal and David Zaslav of Warner Bros Discovery often personally participated in the talks.

The new provisional agreement follows the presentation by the union of a package defined by the actors as “historic”. The AMPTP offering refers to large cost gains. Indeed we talk about salaries and bonuses and various protections on the reasonable use of Artificial Intelligence. If all goes as planned and the council approves the tentative agreement, eligible members of the 160,000-strong actors’ guild will soon vote to ratify the new agreement.
