In fact, there is talk of an earthquake magnitude 7.4, a very powerful and dangerous shock that caused the death of 7 people and 736 injuries. The tsunamis unleashed by this powerful shock would only concern Okinawaon the east coast of Taiwan. The earthquake was located 18 km south-east of Hualien City, approximately 155 km away from the capital of Taipei and at a depth of 34.8 km. After the first shock there were another 58, of which nine measured between magnitude 5 and 6. Such a devastating earthquake had not occurred for some time and triggered the destruction or tilt of 26 buildings and almost 90 thousand people remained without power.
Will the Taiwan earthquake have consequences on the Suzuka GP?
Despite the serious damage that these tremors have caused, it seems that for now they have not taken any measures and, despite the strong earthquake in Taiwan, the Suzuka GP will take place. A rather risky situation, especially considering that seismic shocks are always unpredictable, but the FIA still wanted to maintain the appointment set on the calendar for April 7. The Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida he said he was very sorry and saddened by what happened and called Taiwan the overseas neighbor of Japan. At the moment there are no measures that would cancel the Grand Prix on the Suzuka Circuit, the tsunami risks would only concern the island of Okinawa.
