Taylor Swift’s The Eras Tour will be available to stream on Disney Plus exclusively next month
Taylor Swift’s record-breaking concert film will be available next month exclusively on Disney+ with the addition of five bonus songs. This is The Eras Tour and making it available to all subscribers to the streaming platform was certainly a very smart move on Disney’s part. The news was announced by Disney CEO Bob Iger during yesterday’s earnings call. Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour will be available on the Disney+ streaming platform from March 15th. The streaming version of the film-concert event will be completed with a bonus performance of the song Cardigan and four other songs in acoustic versions. Last December, The Eras Tour became available to rent for other streaming platforms, but with Disney+ it is the first time that the record-breaking concert film becomes available for free to all subscribers to a streaming service.
The Eras Tour an unusual case for Disney plus
The Eras Tour represents a rather unusual case for Disney. Indeed, Disney has always relied primarily on its own products to support the streaming platform without licensing films and television products from other studios. The Eras Tour, however, was produced by the singer’s in-house production company working directly with AMC Theaters and Cinemark to sign a distribution deal with theaters. Such an approach was then a great success. The Eras Tour has in fact grossed 261 million dollars worldwide and the tour itself was an incredible source of incomeIn fact, it was the first tour in history to gross more than $1 billion from ticket sales alone.
