During the BMW Group Annual Conference, Frank Weber, member of the BMW AG Board of Management responsible for Development, presented the first details of the future BMW 7 Series.
BMW has a rather ambitious short-term electric plan. By the end of next year, the German carmaker aims to have electric cars in 90% of segments, and they are definitely well under way. Indeed the BMW i3, BMW iX3, BMW i4 and BMW iX models have already entered the price list this year and two more models will soon be added, namely the BMW iX1 and BMW i7. And it looks like they are already on the right track, as a world premiere of the i7 is expected as early as next month.
This is a super luxurious sedan which will have a declared autonomy of 600 kilometers and, according to BMW, it is based on the same construction and concept as other upcoming model variants of the next generation BMW 7 Series. For a 7 Series to combine both sporty and comfortable driving characteristics, and without a traditional engine and gearbox, the all-electric sister should also be able to offer a roomy enough interior. BMW itself claims that the i7 will actually be the most powerful of the 7 family, with an output of over 600 horsepower.
The Munich house also states that, based on the forecasts of the prototypes tested in the last year, the BMW i7 will have a combined consumption of 18.9 kWh-19.7 kWh and a range on the WLTP cycle varying from 580-610 kilometers.
BMW i7, the Theater Screen for passengers arrives
So far the brand has kept the design of the car fairly hidden, but from the nuanced image of the front it can be seen that the two round headlights, made of exclusive crystal, and the kidney grille have been completely reinterpreted to obtain a modern and distinctive.
Inside, the i7 is equipped with the latest generation of iDrive and the BMW Curved Display known from the BMW i4. BMW promises that a new type of light and functional stripe on the instrument cluster and doors will provide a special experience, both visually and by touch.
But one of the most interesting innovations offered with the new i7 is the BMW Theater Screen. This is installed on the ceiling at the rear, and folds into the passenger compartment thus offering an ultra-wide screen 31-inch with 32: 9 widescreen format and 8K resolution available to passengers.
Appointment in April to get some more news (for example the price) and to see the final design.
