The anime film has blown away Studio Ghibli’s previous records in many countries where it has already been released: for example in France, it garnered more than 1.3 million viewers in 4 weeks. Presented in its Italian premiere during the Rome Film Festival, as a joint event with Alice in the City, The Boy and the Heron tells the story of Mahito, a twelve-year-old who, to see his mother again, ventures into a kingdom where the living and the dead coexist , and where the boundaries between life and death are redefined in a visionary key. For the story Miyazaki was inspired by the novel How Do You Live?written in 1937 by Yoshino Genzaburō.
For the Italian dubbing of the film, the translation from Japanese was entrusted to Francesco Nicodemo, with adaptation edited by Roberta Bonuglia. The voice of the protagonist Mahito is by Giulio Bartolomeithat of the heron is of Stefano DoriFederica De Bortoli is Natsuko/Hisako, Chiara Gioncardi is Kiriko, Lucrezia Marricchi is Himi, while Gianfranco Miranda is Soichi.
