Based on the famous musical inspired by Alice Walker’s novel, The Color Purple will be in American theaters from December 25th: here is the trailer
The Color Purple, adaptation of the musical of the same name with a libretto by Marsha Norman, is shown in the official trailer, shared by Warner Bros. in the last few hours. The clip also confirms the release date, set for Christmas Day for the American market. Initially at risk of postponement due to the strike SAG-AFTRAthe feature film will therefore respect the release window, probably to be able to compete in the now imminent awards season.

The Color Purple is based on the 2005 musical of the same name with music and lyrics by Stephen Bray, Brenda Russell e Allee Willisin turn inspired by novel by Alice Walker. Winner of the Pulitzer Prize and the National Book Award, Walker’s work was adapted for the screen for the first time by Steven Spielberg, nel 1985, con Whoopi Goldberg e Oprah Winfrey among the protagonists. The original film was nominated for 11 Oscars, but not triumphing in any category. Fantasia Barrino, a theater actress in her first film experience, will play Celie in the new version, while Taraji P. Henson, known to the general public for the Empire series and more, will take on the role of Shug.
Directed by Blitz Bazawule and based on a screenplay by Marcus GardleyThe Color Purple will therefore bring the complex and delicate story of the novel centered on to the fore issues such as racism, incest, sexual abuse and domestic violence, told through the stories of some African-American families in Georgia at the beginning of the twentieth century. The production team includes Steven Spielberg himself, with his Amblin Entertainment, Oprah Winfrey, Quincy Jones and Scott Sanders. All that remains is to wait for further updates on the Italian release date.
