Guest at the Austin Film Festival, True Detective writer Nic Pizzolatto revealed he has signed a deal with Blumhouse to write and direct a horror feature film
The world of contemporary horror is preparing to welcome a new signature. Guest ofAustin Film Festivall, Nic Pizzolatto, creator of the cult series True Detective, revealed that he has an agreement with Blumhouse Productions for the development of a feature film. Currently in theaters with The Exorcist – The Believer and Five Nights at Freddy’s, the historic production company specializing in horror projects is therefore ready to bet on one of the most interesting talents of its generation.
Nic Pizzolatto is therefore ready to make his debut as director of a horror feature film, after having directed some episodes of the True Detective series. Blumhouse Production has in fact signed an agreement with the filmmaker as long as he takes care of the direction and screenplay of the project. Pizzolatto revealed that it was the production company that contacted him, asking him if he was interested in making a film, the script of which, based on an idea that the screenwriter and director has been cultivating for about ten years now, has already been finished and delivered.

Nic Pizzolatto, in addition to having worked on True Detective, has also written the screenplays for some feature films including the remake of The Magnificent Seven and The Guilty by Antoine Fuqua and Galveston by Mélanie Laurent. At the moment, however, Pizzolatto has not revealed the plot of his first horror project and it is not even clear when work will begin. In fact, the director limited himself to saying that it will be a kind of detective novel about the occult, thus referring to the atmosphere of the first season of True Detective, with Matthew McConaughey e Woody Harrelson. The anthology series will continue with a fourth season, set in Alaska and with Jodie Foster and Kali Reis as protagonists, expected for January 15, 2024.
