Interesting news awaits the live action The Legend of Zelda, let’s discover them through the director’s words
Many of you will know that Nintendo is currently working on a new, highly anticipated film, dedicated to The Legend of Zelda. This is a film created in collaboration with Sony Pictures. At the head of the project we find Wes Ball, currently working on Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, the new chapter in the Planet of the Apes saga. It was Ball himself who focused on some important aspects of the new The Legend of Zelda. Here are his words.
Meeting between two passions | The Legend of Zelda: interesting updates on live action
The opportunity to discover some more details, from the director himself, came thanks to an interview with Entertainment Weekly, in which he explained that live action was a great opportunity for him, to bring together two great passions:Videogame IP Nintendo and Hayao Miyazaki. Ball said of the new film:
I think of it as a unique adventure fantasy film. I’ve always said I’d like to see a live-action Miyazaki film. That typical wonder and imagination that he brings to the things he creates, I would like to see and do something like that.
Miyazaki’s style is not the only thing the director can take inspiration from. Starting from an old tweet from 2010, dedicated to James Cameron, he confessed:
James Cameron is one of those men who inspire me when it comes to cinema. He makes huge blockbusters, but he’s still able to anchor his stories in a very understandable way for a wide audience. Avatar inspired me to make my little short film Ruin which got me noticed by Fox, who then gave me Maze Runner. From there I moved on to Planet of the Apes and eventually Zelda.
A live action special
In short, it promises to be a truly exciting release, which will certainly leave fans in great anticipation. Enthusiasm that also pervades Wes Ball:
It will be great. My whole life has been leading me to this moment. I grew up with Zelda; it’s the most important intellectual property out there and it’s still unexplored, so to speak. We are working hard to make something worthwhile. We’re not trying to do it for the sake of it. We want to make something really special; we are now planning the script. We hope to give fans what they expect and, at the same time, invite new people. I believe that Nintendo’s desire is to introduce other people to this world, which has existed for 40 years now.
