The new version of the PlayStation 5 will be digital only

If on the one hand Sony works in great secret on a new model, on the other the world of the network does everything to reveal all the news of what will be the new version of the PlayStation 5. Currently the new-gen console, although it is nowhere to be found, is available in two versions: with disk drive and all digital (like the Xbox Series S). Apparently, however, things could change soon, and Sony could sell the new PS5 with a removable disk drive.

The rumors, reported by The Verge, come from Tom Henderson, a well-known Insider Gaming insider. In fact, Henderson’s new report reports that Sony, to avoid the distinction between physical and digital edition, would be thinking of sell all consoles without disk drives. However, users can decide to connect the drive via USB if they are interested in physical games. Gaming Insider reports that the hard drive will be sold separatelywhich would also make repairs in the event of player failure much easier.

PlayStation 5: will the new version be all digital?

In summary we can therefore expect an all-digital version of PS5, with a USB input that will allow connection to a drive sold separately. At the moment, however, it is not clear whether the new all digital version will have a price difference compared to the current one (which costs less than the version with disk drive). This will also depend on the other innovations that the new model will introduce on the new consoles.

After all, the interior of the PlayStation 5 has changed significantly since its original launch in November 2020. In 2021, a new version with a lighter heatsink was launched, and earlier this year the console got a new one. motherboard and a new cooling system. Despite these changes, however, the console has remained unchanged from an aesthetic point of view.

It therefore remains to be seen whether the introduction of a removable hard drive will have an impact on the design of the new PS5. From the hardware point of view, however, according to Insider Gaming, the new version will be “almost identical” to the current one.

The new version of the PlayStation 5 is expected to be launched on the market by the end of 2023.

Meanwhile, just yesterday, Sony announced that PSVR2 will not be backward compatible with PSVR games.
