Oscar nominations for The Whale

The Oscar nomination, the first of his career, establishes the extent of the return of Brendan Fraser, once again the undisputed star of the big screen after having been away from it for many years, so much so that he deserves the neologism “Brenaissance“, the “renaissance of Brendan”, as the international press consecrated him. For him, the prestigious nomination comes after a long series of awards and recognitions, including the Critics Choice Award for Best Actor and the recent BAFTA nomination. The actor has been universally acclaimed by critics for his incredible performance, defined as “epochal” by Variety and “Oscar” by ABC News.

Hong Chau’s is also the first Academy nomination, after the BAF nominationTA. Following The Whale, she will be seen on the big screen in Wes Anderson’s Asteroid City and Yorgos Lanthimos’ AND opposite Emma Stone.

The Whale is an emotional and deeply human journey – an intense and engaging story, intimate and personal that proves universal to touch the heart of the audience. Brendan Fraser as Charlie, an English teacher who must confront his own ghosts and an undisclosed love that has haunted him for years, as well as an unresolved relationship with his teenage daughter, for one last chance at redemption. Directed by Darren Aronofskynominated for an Oscar for Il Cigno Nero and winner of the Leone D’Oro in Venice for The Wrestler, the film is produced by A24 and by Aronofsky himself for Protozoa Pictures. After the excellent results at the US box office The Whale, which has already become a cult movie, will arrive in Italian cinemas on February 23rd with I Wonder Pictures e Unipol Biografilm Collection.
