Build Quality and Design | TicWatch Pro 5 review
The build quality of the TicWatch Pro 5 proves impressive from the very first start. With a design that gives a nod to more traditional chronographs, the use of materials such asstainless steel and the 7000 series aluminum give a first-of-the-class feeling of sturdiness (although they help to achieve a not negligible thickness of 12.2mm and a weight of no less than 44g), to the point of not regretting a construction, typically more massive and resistant, of a classic watch. The protection is obviously the military one MIL-STD-810G is that IP68 (against water and dust) which certify the real resistance beyond the aesthetic sensations. The “chronograph” buttons find real utility in navigating the menus, while the highly appreciated combination of speaker+microphone is housed on the case, a complete hardware package which considerably extends the functionality of the device.
Display e.. display | Review TicWatch Pro 5
TicWatch Pro 5 comes with a 1.43″ AMOLED main display and 466×466 resolution. The quality of the panel is at the top of its category, with excellent performance even under direct sunlight. Very deep blacks and perfect touch response, never a problem from this point of view. The feature that places TicWatch Pro 5 in a position of uniqueness compared to its competitors is the presence of a secondary displaya panel monochrome with very low energy consumption. This display will guarantee you access to the basic information of the smartwatch (time, date, steps) when it is in stand-by or when the battery is low and not sufficient to power the main display, thus extending its life and avoiding sudden shutdowns. An ingenious gimmick that balances the energetic WearOS-based software.
Hardware | Review TicWatch Pro 5
The beating heart of this TicWatch is the Snapdragon Wear W5+ Gen 1paired with well 2GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. An offer capable of satisfying any request in terms of performance and memory, thus placing the smartwatch once again at the top of the market. The device is always fast and fluid, it’s really a pleasure to have it on your wrist and use it constantly, thanks as much to the hardware as to the optimization of Wear OS. About hardware, microphone and speaker system allow you to have access to numerous extra functions such as the convenient ability to make voice calls (with excellent sound performance).
Small mention also for the GPS, an excellent sensor, with a very fast and constantly updated connection for absolute precision, thanks to the GP Multi-GNSS, or the possibility of connecting to 5 different systems (GPS+Beidou+Glonass+Galileo+QZSS). Many should learn from Mobvoi because such a small hardware foresight allows, in this case, to have much more accurate metrics during training.
Software | Review TicWatch Pro 5
WearOS, here in its third iteration, is reconfirmed as one of the most stable and complete operating systems around and now I’ll explain why. First of all because through the Play Store you can download any type of application you want, just like on smartphones. You will also have the possibility to take full advantage of the integration with all applications, which allows you, for example, to view the full WhatsApp notifications (including photos) and reply to messages, even through a (albeit small) virtual keyboard, as well as vocally. All this extends the potential of a smartwatch to infinity and, in this specific case, everything happens without any hitches or problems.
In any case, Mobvoi has not stood aside and has included its own applications for complete monitoring of health and workouts in this product. In particular we talk about: TicSalute, TicMotion, TicOssigeno, TicHealth, TicExercise, TicZen, TicSonno e TicBreathe which make use of the device’s sensors (Bluetooth 5.2, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, GPS, Beidou, Glonass, Galileo, QZSS, NFC) for a complete analysis of the data. Nor is it great accuracy in step counting and sleep quality recording.
Autonomy | TicWatch Pro 5 review
TicWatch Pro 5 comes with a 628mAh battery and thanks to all the optimizations we talked about, it allowed me to reach dai three to four days of autonomy with each charge cycle. A decidedly impressive result considering the software platform on which it runs, with all the sensors and notifications activated. Even more impressive result are the beyond 30 days of autonomy using the mode Essential of the smartwatch, which activates the monochrome display (with limited functionality) but does not deactivate the sensors for calculating steps and heart rate.
Conclusions and price
TicWatch Pro 5 is one of the best smartwatches for Android out there. This does not mean that it is free from defects, on the contrary, surely xxx would have been appreciated, however it is undeniable that the Mobvoi smartwatch, at a price of €359.99is the most complete currently on the market.
