In a segment where the competition (BMW R1250GS) has raised the bar Triumph hopes that the new Tiger 1200 2022 will be closer to the new benchmark than the previous model. As? With many innovations and no less than five different Tiger 1200 models.
And to challenge an icon among adventure / crossovers, the new Triumph Tiger 1200 2022 features many innovations, which involve engine, frame, wheels, ergonomics, technology: practically nothing has remained the same as the outgoing Tiger 1200.
Tiger 1200 Rally Pro
Starting with the design, it is evident at first glance that the engine has undergone a “crash diet”. The bike feels a lot less bulky and heavier, which then were the two biggest complaints about the previous model. The new bodywork also contributes to the fresh look. Also new colors and also the positions of the footpegs and handlebar have been adjusted for a better posture of the driver.
The new Triumph doesn’t just look leaner, it is. As mentioned, one of the most common complaints from Tiger 1200 owners is that the engine was too heavy, especially given the position above the tank. The new Tiger weighs at least 25 kg less than its sister destined to go off the list. Also, according to Triumph, the Tiger 1200 is also 17 kg lighter than its “closest competitor with shaft drive”. Despite the weight loss, the Tiger is not a “light” bike as the curb weight varies from 240 to 261 kg, depending on the version.
Tiger 1200 GT Explorer
Although it was rumored – or it was a deep desire of lovers of the brand – that Triumph would use the same engine as the 180 HP Speed Triple 1200 RS, the British are still opting for a completely new engine. In fact, a 1160 cc three-cylinder engine with 150 hp and 130 Nm is making its début, or 9 hp and 7 Nm more than the previous model. New to this block is the T-shaped crankshaft with erratic firing order, which should ensure a smooth driving experience at low revs. The BMW, it should be remembered, does not go beyond 136 HP.
Triumph Tiger 1200 2022, many versions for all tastes
The Triumph Tiger 1200 will arrive in 2022 with no less than five variants, three GTs and two Rally. The GT versions are intended for the road and have specific equipment to match. So we find 19-inch aluminum alloy wheels at the front and 18-inch (previously 17-inch) at the rear and a series of special accessories. The GT and GT Pro have room for 20 liters of fuel, the 1200 GT Explorer has a 30-liter tank.
Tiger 1200 Rally Explorer
Those who like dirt can choose between the two Rally models. These have 21-inch and 18-inch tubeless spoke wheels. The Tiger 1200 Rally Pro has a 20 liter tank while the Rally Explorer version boasts a 30 liter one. The Rally models can be compared to the Adventure series of the R1250GS.
Tiger 1200 GT Pro
Not missing, as befits a motorcycle of our day, a good dose of electronics. For example, a new TFT screen with My Triumph connectivity stands out, but also lean angle sensitive traction control, quick shifting, six driving modes, active cornering lights, semi-active Showa suspension, heated grips and a system completely keyless, even as regards the fuel cap. On Explorer models, you also get the Blind Spot Radar, which uses radars to warn the driver of oncoming traffic in the blind spot.
