Sony breaks through and not only at the cinema: the video game podium is all of the second Japanese giant in sales figures from the United Kingdom
We’re still here to talk about the sales data at the beginning of the week (we would say “Monday”, but we gave up a bit) for the video games. Before giving some context to the subtitle you read above, we would like to do the same with the following lines. Our weekly special is indeed dedicated to the videogame medium, but the sales we are talking about consist of receipts printed at the cash desks. It is therefore only the physical format, as digital sales will not find a place until the census that the British body GfK makes public every seven days. We can go on!
Is there no way back home? Not really!
In what we swear to be pure chance, on the very day of the release of the highly anticipated Spider-Man: No Way Home trailer, Sony grabs the podium in video game sales figures. The weekly sample is Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut. The improved version of last year’s action game also came out on PS4, but it is on next-gen that the title has grossed 91% of sales. In second place, then, we have Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, climbed eight places with a momentum of 105%. The same development team then saw its previous game finish third with a 92% surge. It just so happens (again) that it is Spider-Man: Miles Morales.
Spin – Sales figures for video games
The number one of the best-selling video games of last week (or at least two weeks ago, as we will remind you with the final table) is therefore fourth in the sales figures. Let’s talk about Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, which however lost only a paltry 4% in sales. Remaining then in the sports context, we have the new release in physical format of the week. The debut of Madden NFL 22 takes place in 19th place, selling 47% less than its counterpart last year. Do you remember our opening words? Digital sales will probably also count, but more will only be known towards the weekend.
Touchdown – Sales figures for video games
In reporting the sales figures for video games in physical format, GamesIndustry.biz gives us a first: in the case of Madden NFL 22 we have, for once, precise numbers even for copies sold on Xbox consoles. We are more than happy to give you the case numbers: 49% sold on PS5, 32% on PS4, 13% on Xbox One and 7% on Xbox Series X (and S). Moving on to a recent debut, Hades falls fifteen positions: the tumble of 52% compared to the previous week is worth a little ceremonious, but still respectable, twenty-third place.
Wonderful Wakanda, Forever – Sales figures for video games
Our journey into sales data ends with a meeting point between physical and digital video games. An update for Marvel’s Avengers (we swear we’re not doing this on purpose!), in fact, it caused an increase in sales. This is not even a small push: the war for Wakanda has earned the game a 78% surge in sales compared to two weeks ago. In fact, as we will recall shortly, we have just described the sales over the past week: our previous special instead dealt with the sales of two weeks ago (and so on).
Concluding records
We have practically already anticipated (if this is the first special on the subject, for you) the key to our interpretation table, but in case we will repeat. The results of the week just ended are the positions in the center, while (for a comparison) you will find on the left the position of the same game in the data from two weeks ago, collected in the previous episode. Enjoy the reading!
