Women Talking: Sarah Polley returns with a rust-and-bones drama

Based on the best-selling novel by Miriam Toews, the film Women Talking directed by Sarah Polleybrings back to the big screen the drama actually experienced by the women of the Bolivian Mennonite community in the 2000s. The touching story through the eyes and the stories of three generations of women.

For years drugged and brutally abused by the men of the religious community; they decide to get together to discuss their dramatic condition. Left unheard and manipulated by those who were supposed to be the protectors of the community itself; they discuss together the horrible and ferocious situation to which they are now subjected, looking for a refuge and a way out for a better future.

Note for the miniseries of Netflix Margaret Atwood’s The Other Grace; Sarah Polley she wanted to return to the big screen with a narrative feature film after 11 years, representing a ftouching film that explores questions of an inhuman world, in which forgiveness, faith and hope intersect in a dense web of violence and abuse. As explained by the director herself:

Even though the story is about a small religious community, I felt the need to weave a large canvas, one that was epic in scope and through which to reflect the enormity and universality of the questions raised in the film. I wanted to feel in every frame the infinite potential and possibilities contained in a conversation about how to improve a shattered world
