The first trailer for Wonka, prequel to The Chocolate Factory, was previewed at CinemaCon and gave some details on the characters of Timothèe Chalamet and Hugh Grant
During the Warner Bros. panel at CinemaCon in Las Vegas, held yesterday April 25, the trailer for Wonka, prequel to The Chocolate Factory from the musical vein, in which Timothèe Chalamet plays the role of a very young Willy Wonka. In addition to providing some details about the main character and his wishes, the clip revealed the involvement of Hugh Grantwho will appear in the project in a decidedly extravagant role.
Unfortunately, the trailer was only shown in preview at the review and for its disclosure it will still take some time, but as usual, an accurate description of what was shown on social media was provided. The most interesting news leaked from the clip is, as mentioned, the role of Hugh Grant. The English star will in fact play the role of an Umpa Lumpathe little creatures who work in the chocolate factory in Roald Dahl’s novel, with absolute devotion and a touch of cynicism.
Wonka: Hugh Grant Unleashed in First Advance Trailer at CinemaCon
According to what was leaked on the net, Umpa Lumpa will be engaged in one of the musical numbers present in the feature film, which also involves Hugh Grant himself. After some short sequences of song and dance which have become iconic within his filmography (among all that of Love Actually and the video clip of Write me a song) the actor is therefore ready to try his hand again in a “musical” sequence.
The trailer then shows some snippets of the difficult path that a young Willy Wonka must face to open his chocolate factory, since he will clash with a group that wants to prevent him from making it big in the industry. However, a young girl, played by Calah Lane, will help him complete his vision. We are therefore faced with a less cynical and sarcastic version of the character than the one we have come to know in the two previous film adaptations by Mel Stuart and Tim Burton, respectively played by Gene Wilder and Johnny Depp. In fact, Wonka only wants to make his dreams come true, to give the world a little joy and happiness. Timothèe Chalamet, within the clip, is then portrayed as he sings, dances and tries to make some people fly with his magic chocolates. The film is expected to arrive on December 14, 2023, but obviously before that date we will update you on further developments in our channels.
