The future of the studio and the new Yakuza game
The doubts that gripped fans of the Yakuza series in recent weeks were not only the result of abandonment of the historical exponents of the saga, but also for the new twist that the franchise has taken with Kasuga Ichiban and the new game Like a Dragon, which has revolutionized the entire game system. In addition, the Judgment title seems to be at the end of the line, due to the ongoing dispute between SEGA and Johnny Associates, or the agency of the actor who plays the investigator of the game, Takayuki Yagami. This is because the agency’s policies conflict with SEGA’s ambitions to bring the title to PC, considering it a platform not relevant to the gaming industry.
Meanwhile, while Judgment may find its end on a somewhat bitter note, despite the latest released game having had a resounding success, the Yakuza series it will go on its own steps: It has been confirmed that the next title will be a continuation of Ichiban’s story, and that it will be set after several years from the events of the first episode. In addition, to fill the void potentially left by Judgment will also come other unpublished IPs and not yet announced, outside the best known sagas of the Ryu Ga Gotoku studio.
