The lead architect of PS5, Mark Cerny, has filed a new patent linked to the backward compatibility of the console: possible news on the way?
If there is an industry in which Xbox he has easily overcome the world PlayStation, it is definitely regarding the software backward compatibility, with the Microsoft-console which are able to allow the use of almost all titles released on the various hardware of the Redmond house. The situation, however, according to a post di Shaun McIlroy, may change very soon, as the lead architect di PS5, Mark Cerny, has recently filed a new and interesting patent, precisely linked to the functionality in question.
PS5 and backwards compatibility: Mark Cerny files a new patent
As we read in the post appeared on Twitter, and that as always we propose in the news, the patent in question speaks of a backward compatibility based on the use of spoof clock and fine grain frequency control. Since Sony’s latest console is already capable of running software PS4 (albeit with some limitations), it is not to be excluded how the functionality in question can refer to compatibility with PS1, PS2 and PS3 productions. Which would certainly not be a small blow, given the amount of classics that have been made available over the years on these systems, with many brands such as Resistance e Killzone which have now lost their traces for many years.

Of course, only time will tell us what the actual use of this will be patent linked to backwards compatibility, and if ever this will be returned available for PS5. Certainly this is a hypothesis not to be ruled out a priori, given the way in which Sony is trying to align its offer to that of Xbox, as also shown by the rumors relating to the competitor of the Japanese house in a Game Pass perspective.
Of course, should there be any developments, we at TechGameWorld.com will not fail to promptly keep you updated, therefore our invitation is to continue to follow us, perhaps after having also taken a look at the offers on the Instant Gaming pages.
