The World Photography Organization has announced which photographers are selected for the competitions dedicated to students and young people regarding the Sony World Photography Awards 2022.
The winners of “Student Photographer of the Year” and “Youth Photographer of the Year” will be announced on 12 April and their works will be exhibited as part of the “Sony World Photography Awards 2022” exhibition at Somerset House in London.
Shortlist del contest “Student Photographer of the Year”
The list features a series of works by 10 students, carried out at major international higher education institutions. For content 2022, students were asked to submit a series of shots – from 5 to 10 images – interpreting the short connections.
Connections with ‘cultural identity and community’ are taken into account by many of the projects, while elsewhere the series explores connections through representations of the whole. Furthermore, links with the past and with family history have also been targeted in many of the projects.
The selected students come from all over the world: India, Argentina, Russia, China, Zambia and the Netherlands.
The winner of the Student Photographer of the Year 2022 will be selected from among 10 students and will be announced on April 12th. Together with their university, the winner will receive € 30,000 worth of Sony digital imaging equipment. This year’s student shortlist was judged by Colin Czerwinski, founder of NOICE Magazine.

Shortlist del contest “Youth Photographer of the Year”
The shortlist of candidates for the Youth contest includes seven “category winners” chosen between June and December 2021: users who each responded to a different monthly theme. The young photographers selected interpreted monthly themes such as culture and travel, landscape, portraiture and composition and design. The monthly winners chosen come from a range of international territories, including Canada, USA, Australia and Vietnam, and are aged between 15 and 19 years.
Youth Photographer of the Year is judged by Hideko Kataoka, director of photography for Newsweek Japan. The winner will receive a range of Sony digital imaging equipment to continue cultivating his dreams and visions.
The overall winners of the Student, Youth, Open and Professional competitions of the Sony World Photography Awards 2022 will be announced on April 12, 2022.
