While Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is still in theaters, the Spider-Man cinematic universe is enriched with a new short film: The Spider Within.
The Spider Within will launch fans of the Spider-Verse into the mind of Miles Morales, played by Shameik Moore. The pressure of being Spider-Man brings out the best in him, but it also causes panic attacks. Think of a scene from the first film, Into the Spider-Verse, where Miles suffers a panic attack at school, after gaining his spider powers. Like that first scene, this new animated short will give fans of the Spider-Verse a glimpse into horror theme about the downsides of being Spider-Man.
The Spider Within: A new chapter in the Spider-Verse with a strong AI influence
The short film will be directed by Jarelle Dampier, a talent selected through the program LENS (Leading and Empowering New Storytellers) by Sony Pictures Imageworks. As to how this short relates to the Spider-Verse films there isn’t much clarity yet. It is not known in particular whether or not the short will be a prequel of the events of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.
This is an interesting theory. I will say that I wish I could answer this question, but I think I want to wait a bit. I will say that there are several easter eggs within the short.
He has declared Jarelle Dampier, director of Sony Pictures. We just have to find out when and where we could see this short. The Spider Within does not have a release date yet. And we don’t even know if it will arrive in theaters or in streaming. Not even Dampier can say with certainty what the plan is for the release of this new chapter. He could only confirm that there are still several avenues open, but that he doesn’t know what the preference for publication is.
