Just yesterday Adam Mosseri, CEO of Instagram, said he wanted to testify before the Senate on how the App is trying to ensure the safety of younger users. On the other hand, we know that in recent weeks social media has been widely criticized for the impact it has on the mental health of adolescents. And although the platform has tried to defend itself, now Mosseri has decided to have his say. “We all want young people to be safe when they are online,” he commented in a Twitter post. So let’s see what we should expect from the testimony of the CEO of Instagram.

Adam Mosseri will testify before the Senate in defense of Instagram

Adam Mosseri will testify before the Senate in an effort to highlight Instagram’s efforts to stand up for younger users. At the moment, however, we do not know when the hearing will take place. Although Sen. Richard Blumenthal said this could be held in the week of December 6th. And the news seems to be more than reliable, especially since the senator has already hosted some hearings after the Wall Street Journal published the research that Instagram is toxic to teenage girls, affecting the relationship they have with their bodies.

In response, Instagram had stated that instead the social network often supports young people in accepting their body image, rather than denigrating it. And as if that weren’t enough, the App has worked hard to release features aimed at improve the mental well-being of users, including the “Take a break” option. Still, Instagram has ended up in the Senate’s spotlight time and time again. And with it also platforms such as Snapchat, TikTok and YouTube, especially as regards the safety of children who use social networks. No wonder, then, that Adam Mosseri will also end up in front of the Senate for the first time. What will happen we will find out soon, but will Mosseri be enough to convince the US legislation that Instagram defends the youngest?
